Title: No antialiasing on light material / objects
Post by: NEWSTREAM on 2017-06-16, 17:53:20
Hi.

Is there any way to get rid off jagged edges on geometry with a corona light material? (see attachment)

Is there a setting I missed?
Tips appreciated.

Kind Regards / Alex

Afaik every renderer out there deals with this.

One solution is to downscale (i.e render a huge image and then downscale it), the other is to play around in PS / Affinity.

The "best" and the most "realistic" solution would probably be to enable bloom & glare to add a little soft touch to the lights. After all, that would happen in reality as well :)

Thanks nkilar!

Thats's a workaround. I guess. I'll have to fiddle with this in PhotoShop.

Yeah, no problem, just hope it helps :) Bloom & Galre is something you can do from inside the Corona VFB or the Corona Image Editor.

Hi NEWSTREAM,

as nkilar says, every renderer there deals with this. In the real world, camera lenses are not ideally precise, and they blur the image little bit. Here is the link to the video with more advice how to deal with jagged edges https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc9aaA6WAuQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc9aaA6WAuQ).

Two solutions which usually have best results:

1) Use bloom and glare combined with sharpen/blur to introduce "imperfection" to your image.
2) Use highlight clamping (do not mistake with highlight compression). This will clamp the brightest areas, but also will lower the dynamic range of the image, so this is not possible to use if you are planning to save to 32 bit and adjust later:

You might also increase Internal resolution to 2.

You might also increase Internal resolution to 2.

But only if you still can find a version of Corona old enough to still have this option ;)

I colour clamp. Can almost eliminate this.
