Title: Rendering shadows separately | alpha v6 hotfix3
Post by: gieroj on 2017-05-21, 23:34:48
hello community,

I have an object in my scene and I want to render the object seperately from it's shadows (to have bigger control in post). Tried to render shadows only with the Multi-pass feature but actually ended up with a black image.

Would someone be so kind and explain the process to me?

Best regards

Perhaps you should try it with the newest dailies? Don't forget to work on the copy of the actual scene in case something goes wrong ;)

You need shadow catcher shader, which is not implemented yet. You can copy your scene, replace lights with c4d lights and use cinema's native shadow catcher shader. (with native renderer)

Hmm hmm... I would suggest to not use Corona tone mapping and make sure you output a 32 bit OpenEXR file. Enable Multi-Pass in Corona (Corona -> MultiPass) with the essential layers like Direct, Indirect, Shadows, Reflections etc... Then in post add the layers together (linear dodge - add, probably multiply for shadows) and just paint them out.
