Title: Saving EXR with Background
Post by: apjasko on 2017-03-16, 12:59:22
This might be a stupid question and I couldn't find an answer by searching. But is it possible to save an EXR format without the alphas being applied to every layer? I recently started saving my image as EXR and didn't encounter this issue as I started with interiors. Now I have an exterior shot, I can't for the life of me open the file in Photoshop without losing my background. On all render elements.

I use EXR-IO and maybe this is the issue. I haven't tried ProEXR. There is a dialog box upon opening my EXR and if I check "Fix transparent emitters", I get my BG, but on an extremely low opacity and I need to flatten that layer onto a black layer in order to see the background properly. Obviously this isn't ideal but I'll do it if I have to. Am I doing something wrong or is this the nature of EXR format?

I remember testing it and could not get it to work properly as well. ProEXR  (http://www.fnordware.com/ProEXR/)is free now and works perfectly.

Good Luck

Fantastic, I'll switch to ProEXR. Thank you!

They should work together :D
ProEXR works perfectly but it takes ages to open large files such as autosave files. EXR-IO is much faster.
