Title: C4D beta still on target?
Post by: Brandroid on 2017-02-10, 18:01:10
I recently started following development here, and I'm eagerly awaiting the beta (and V1) release of Corona. The roadmap lists Q1 as the target for the first beta. Is that still on target? End of Q1 is fast approaching. Are daily builds available to the public yet?

While we are about it: Will the first beta still be free or will there at least be a trial?

I am really curious.

We are intensively working on it. We successfully incorporated all changes from new Corona core and we are working on fixes for interactive rendering now. We expect that first daily build will be released in 1 or 2 weeks. And yes, beta will be still for free.

Absolutely great news!
Can't wait to see how you solved material stacking!

Thx a lot for your reply.

Im still getting consistent crashing with displacement materials but finding that generally the larger the scene the more consistent the crashing. Sometimes its fine on a preview scene but bring it in to the main large scene and usually crashes it just before the first pass starts.

Same, can't work with displacement in larger scene or complexes geometrys.

Im glad its not just me! I've been getting some mileage out of normal maps with substance but its not a permanent replacement solution. I've lost many hours pulling my hair out on the displacement bug but at least I know now its the first thing I check.

i hope you will solve displacment crash, mainly with substance shader

I am sorry for displacement crashing. This is definitely high priority bug for us. Could someone create the large scene which causes the crashing and send it to us so we can open it and immediately see the crash? We would be very grateful.

Good Nikolat ?

Yes, thank you for the scene be_rmi. Actually it doesn't crash on my computer, but I have an idea what can be wrong and I am trying to reproduce it.

when the new beta with the IPR will be realeased?
I'm going to start a new project by the end of next week and I'm really looking to use corona, but without the IPR I'm not feeling my workflow is smooth enough.
Thanks

Yes Im keen too. IR and DR are going to be great. But Hog0 Alpha 6.2 is more than capable at the moment for your masters vis. Many of us have used Corona in full production for over a year now.

yes sure, so did i lol... but still.. i dont care about IR at all since on low res any prev render is blazing fast..
what im "in need of" would be shadow catcher and a powerful bugfree DR :) as i did post over several topics, proxies are only working with a workaround on teamrender and TR is still inferior compared to like vray DR.. i got lots of cores sitting around at the office but i cant put them to good use before rendering the final images :S

Beta 1 will be released soon (this week or next)

To be more precise, it will be a work-in-progress daily build of Beta 1, so don't expect a fully-functional final build yet (for example interactive rendering will still be missing in this build for sure)

Nooooo, i was waiting for the IPR so bad. When the node base material will be released?

By the way why corona for c4d is so late compared to Max?

Just a few "Corona for Dummies" questions:
- The currently available daily beta is not working for everybody, it needs a beta tester license, yes?
- There will be a Beta 1 some day working for everybody, yes?
- Can you roughly tell me/us, when this "some day" will/might be?

Just curious.

Shouldn't need a beta license, that requirement was removed some months back - if you ever installed a previous version of Corona that DID require a license, be sure to fully uninstall Corona before installing the new alphas and betas (and to do the same for any machines used as render nodes, too).

So the daily beta from the subforum SHOULD work "as is"?

I removed the old corona folder in plugins, copied the new one into it. I removed the app data folder for Corona Renderer and even killed the prefs.
As soon as I start C4D, the licence window pops up.

Yep, confirming, with license removed/deleted it asks for activation or a demo (needs beta license).

Same here. License activation window came up.
Have gone back to A6.3

Hey everyone! The current beta was released only as a daily build, hence the requirement for beta subscription. Sorry for the confusion. But as Niko stated here, tomorrow, you'll not need a license anymore:

Hi all,

because there are so many requests to test daily builds, tomorrow release will be available for everyone without a need for special beta testing licence.

B1 daily Apr  7 2017 have IPR in performance tab settings. i dont see any IPR tab or anything related to it. whats wrong with that? should we use native interative render region of c4d? if so its terribly slow even on dual xeon. i am confused..

Native IPR is not yet in this Beta, but I trust it is gonna be awesome!

Just out of curiosity, what's the difference between the Corona IPR versus just enabling the Interactive Render Region?

A video is worth a thousand words...

The IPR is the window on the top right. In a nutshell, it is faster, more fluid and probably more stable than the IRR (which is great but not quite the same as the IPR).

I gotcha. It definitely seems much quicker. It will be so nice when C4D gets this!

The thing is, with Interactive Render Region, you have to pre-process the scene with every change, whereas Corona IPR is smarter, doing the preprocess only once and then changing whatever needs to be changed. That's why it is so much faster than the original Cinema solution, but it's also why it is so complicated and takes so much time to implement. So don't worry, we are working hard on this - currently, we finished rewrite of materials to allow for detection of changes and are working on a similar rewrite of geometry.

With the exception of Octane/ Arnold I think every other render engine "maker" struggled with the IPR aspect. I guess it just takes a lot of time to do :) Your effort is much appreciated Houska & team!

Haha no worries :) I can't even imagine the amount of coding that goes into this kind of thing. We really appreciate all the work the Corona team has done!

Just curious if you guys could give us a somewhat rough timeline of when to expect some of the new features that are on the C4D road map? We know that IR is going to take some time, but how about the shadow catcher, material stack support, and material preview responsiveness? Thanks guys!
