Title: Several computers fighting for DR nodes
Post by: Monkeybrother on 2017-02-01, 09:43:27
A question came up at work; if several people are rendering using DR, how does that work? Do the first computer get all the nodes until that render is done or can DR nodes switch scene if another computer is asking for it?

Atm. yes, like this. You can use the same node to render a Backburner job simultaneously however. But usually (yes, there are exeptions imho) it is not wise to render more than one scene on one node at the same time :)

Good Luck

Ok. I'm asking because our IT guy (a technician...) suggested that we use Deadline's "submit to DR" script, which lets a user lock down a few nodes until the render is done. But wouldn't that just defeat the purpose of "search LAN during render"? If you use Deadline to submit a DR render, that would only mean that if there are no nodes available at submission time, there will never be any free nodes until I stop the render and search for free nodes manually. Seems less flexible. But thanks for the answer, we'll stick to Corona's built in DR manager.

Try this solution before using deadline. (expensive for a small or medium studio imo)

Thanks, I'll check it out. I couldn't find a price, though, where did you find that?

I am curious about this too, I saw it is in trial now but is there some info about what the price could be later?

I know the team developing it.
The price will be very reasonable.
They will have packages according to the number of machines you own.
