These days I am struggling with the question, do I build a WS with 2x 2683v3 or 2x2680 v1 because it is quite cheaper and the cpu doesn´t need to be imported from China.
I had for two days a HP 620z but (as already mentioned in this Hardware section) with ist proprietary bridges, adapters and a mainboard which suddenly dies and 2 dimms of broken Ram, I sent it back.
But my question is, because I am always out of ram - my 4770k with 32gb is to weak- , is the 2683 worth the higher price and what do you think of the upcoming Ryzen/ Naples (Multi CPU) Systems.
Everything sounds so great, but nearly 15 years ago, I had 2 AMD K6 or K7 Athlon, I don´t remember anymore and both died in a short period of time and AMD refused the warranty, so I am little warry about them. They had been the reason, why I solely used Macs with bootcamp until two years.
What do you think about the latest progress of AMD Server/WS/Desktop CPUs? Are they worth waiting? Thanks in advance.

I am personally waiting with any PC purchase for Ryzen to hit the market. I was using AMD exclusively from 386 until first Intel Core, with no problems whatsoever

Same here. Holding off on the GPUs and CPUs for as long as possible because it -seems- AMD is going to be competitive.
The GPUs are a different story, they have had powerful hardware on the high end for a long time but the CPU front was starved as pretty much everything above mainstream was locked off by Intel and the i7s and Xeons.
Naples looks like a real performer however it is slated for Q2 which probably doesn't mean early May but more like early summer.
A great, amazing thing from AMD is that they committed to using the AM4 socket up until 2020 which means you don't need to buy new motherboards everytime there is a tock. That and if the 8 core Ryzen ship performs in the realm of the 6900k ... I think thats amazing :)
At this point however, it is a wait and see. Hoping for the good stuff though :)
