Title: High-end render farm working machines
Post by: Noyale on 2016-12-13, 08:32:49
I'm currently planning to create a new render farm and just wondering that what might be the "best price" components for an single working machine in this moment?

My plan for future is to have enough working machines to render faster, even partly heavy 3d-animations. I'm currently using 3ds Max, Corona + some other plugins.

Any suggestions?

Package #1

There is one thing that I'm kind of guessing: 2.1Ghz enough for Xeon?

Thanks!

as for your CPU doubts, see corona benchmark results, compare them with CPU prices, make the best decision

For a single machine a dual xeon build would be "best price". The E5-2683 V3 or V4 (depending if you're buying retail or ES) are great value for rendering price/power.
You'd need a dual socket board like Asus Z10PE-D8 WS or alike. And server type memory. I'd suggest 16Gb per stick memory, so you can upgrade later. Definitely at least 650W psu.
This way you'd need boxes in the long run, which means less parts overall, less licenses etc.

As for that single cpu config you provided, the board is overkill (unless you really need it for some tasks). And same as I wrote above on memory and psu.
