Title: Is it possible to use 3ds max's standard lights in order to create caustics?
Post by: fa2020 on 2016-11-25, 12:51:25
The only way to create caustics in Corona 1.5 is to use Corona light but the result of it isn't so interesting. The caustics look unrealistic. In Vray I can use standard lights so as to create high quality caustics but Corona's limitations don't allow such a sharp caustics. Can anybody help me to solve this in Corona?

AFAIK there is no way to enable any kind of area for the 3ds Max lights, so I would bet this is not possible. Anyway, caustics in Corona are still WIP, but they will be done at some point. Currently you can use the experimental Bidir/VCM engines to render caustics, although this comes with some limitations, so it usually pays off to fake them in some way. See:

as 3dsmax lights are very un-physical, I doubt they will ever work reasonably with caustics in Corona. But we will try to make the Corona Lights work some day...
