Title: Does 3ds Max 2017 viewport support SLI?
Post by: Majeranek on 2016-11-23, 21:25:34
Hi.

Have anyone from the forum used Nvidia SLI cards just for viewports? Does it provide any additional performance?

I've got one additional GeForce (the same as in the workstation) and I'm just wondering if it'll speed up viewports.

Hi
There's an autodesk representative & support ready to give an official answer about Max, right? Oh, and sort of google :)
Otherwise, from research i've made... no, SLI doesn't help Max... likes directX & Quadros tho... more

SLI has never worked for 3dsmax.
And there's absolutely no reason for Quadro cards, just get whatever Geforce/AMD card you can afford ;)

I know there something like google :) I found somewhere the answer that in one of the studios they use SLI and it boosted up viewport speed. That's why I'm asking.

By default max is set to work in single GPU mode, however if you manually add 3ds max under the "manage 3d settings" panel in the nvidia control panel you can force alternate frame rendering 1 or 2 mode. It definitely boosts GPU utilisation & viewport speed for me. Previously my 2nd GPU would have 0% load moving around heavy scenes, now has roughly the same load % as the 1st gpu.

Running 2x Titan X Maxwell cards.

Ok, so when I'll have two GPUs should I connect my both monitor's to one Card or each monitor to one graphic card?
