Title: reflective label
Post by: marioteodoru on 2016-11-05, 14:40:47
Hello.
How do i proceed with creating a layered material for a label? I need to make a material that has a image as diffused and a coating of reflective layer over it. Right now if i make a Layeredmtl and i make the second layer reflective i can not see the second layer underneath.  If i make it transparent, i end up seeing the object beneath it not the layer from th material.

Make coating material perfectly reflective (diffuse - 0, reflection - 1, refl colour - white, refl IOR - 999) plug falloff map as layered material's mask to control blending between base material and coating material.

Also you may want to watch this tutorial:

Not sure what exactly result you want to achieve, but for simple plastic bag you don't need layered material. Simple mix map should be enough.

Attaching max scene, you may download it and see if that's what you need.
