Title: Xref Objects & Materials
Post by: C00P3R on 2016-11-02, 15:07:07
Hi all,

Im relatively new to max and Corona and I'm finding when I have large scenes my scene becomes too heavy.
Im looking at;
Corona proxys
Xref scenes
Xref objects.

I want to be able to have a manageable viewport and detail at render.

Corona Proxy
When I use the proxy I seem to loose the ability to go back and edit my objects. (geometry or material wise)
Xref scene
I find Xref scenes are difficult to transform in my master file and if I need to update them I have to open external files which have different light setups.
Xref objects
This seems perfect I can move my objects i can have a light viewport but the materials don't seem to always work. If I have a multi sub material on geometry the xref override removes this feature. I can relink the multi sub material node to the object but i don't want to brake and links it made.

How do you guys work with large scenes, maintaining the ability to edit geometry and materials efficiently?

Thanks Danny

I do a lot of master plan work and I use xref scenes the most personally. Yah it's not editable at all in the master, but it's handy for quick toggling of visibility. I adjusted my workflow and got used to it eventually when it comes to working with the individual files.

I keep major lighting elements and detail objects( like trees, street lights, etc.) in the master file for easy shifting and experimentation.
