Hi guys!
Could you tell me, is GTX 980 Ti with 6GB video memory good for work in 3DS Max? I'm not talking about GPU rendering now, I'm thinking about viewport performance at the moment.
Now I have GTX 660 Ti with 3GB, and I'd like to get better performance. It would be also interesting to know if you have better price/quality balanced video card for this case.
Thanks in advanced!

Yep the 980 Ti is good, still using one here myself. Of course, the new 1080s are even better, haven't looked into the price / performance ratio though to see if the 980 Ti is down in price enough to make it still worth considering compared to the 1080s.

Only if you can get it cheaper than GTX 1070 to make it worth to you.

Thanks for your replies!

So you would choose GTX 1070 if the price about the same, right?

For sure on choosing one of the newer generation cards - unless you are saving a lot of money by purchasing the older generation, go for the newer ones. Most likely will have to upgrade soon again myself :)

Taken from some russian forum.
Performance in max viewport (20 million polygons tests scene):
gtx 1070 - shaded 35 fps | realistic 18-20 fps
gtx 760 - shaded 35 fps | realistic 13-20 fps
gtx 970 - shaded 35 fps | realistic 13-15 fps
gtx 980 - shaded 28 fps | realistic 12-14 fps
r9 380 - shaded 33 fps | realistic 10-11 fps
r9 270 - shaded 25 fps | realistic 8-10 fps
I run this test on my gtx 960 some time ago, results was pretty similar like gtx 970. For 3ds max alone, gtx 980 ti is not worth its price. I'd go with gtx 1060.
BTW, difference in fps is most likely more from different windows and max versions rather than from GPU itself.

Thank you guys!
Here are the prices:
GTX 980 6Gb- 420 eur
GTX 1070 8Gb - 440 eur
GTX 1060 6Gb - 265 eur
What would be your choice?

3dsMax is indeed quite inneficient with GPU when it comes to handling scenes, imho there is way more overhead somewhere else.
Choice of GPU comes down to what else you also want to use it for. Even 1060 is pretty damn good gpu. 1070 will be improvement when it comes to real-time mostly.

Thanks Jurai!
Now I'm facing another problem, it's connected with power supply. I have only 6-pin PCI-E outputs there, but video card needs 8-pin connection to power supply. Searching adapters 6->8-pin in internet didn't give results... Do you know any solution for this problem without changing power supply block?

You could check what's in the box of the GPU you plan to buy. Sometimes they include Molex to 6/8 pin adapters.
What model is your PSU? And other components? PSU can damage many parts if you stress it too much.

PSU: COOLER MASTER RS-A50-SPHA-D3 Silent Pro Hybrid 1050W 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active
GPU: now I'm thinking about GTX 1060 6Gb, 8-pin
CPU: 2 x Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2660
1 HDD, 1 SSD

That should be more than enough. And judging by manufacturers info, that PSU should come with 6 cables that go into 6pin plugs in PSU, and have 6+2 pins on the other end. Those are the ones you need.
If you don't have those, try ordering spare ones somewhere. No need to change PSU ;)

Unfortunately I don't have those adapters. Tried to find male 6pin to female 8pin adapter, but always got links to female 6 to male 8pin...

If choosing between this 3 card i would prefer 1060 with 6gigs of ram.
But it seems that 960 with 4 gigs is enough to work with 3ds.
Btw it is 20 eur cheaper in LV ) http://maxcom.lv/zotac-geforce-gtx-1060-mini-6gb-gddr5-192-bit-hdmi-dvi-3xdp-zt-p10600a-10l-2644500.html (Short base bacause Z600 stations does not have aditional support for GPU's and it might brake the port)

Thank you for your replies and your suggestions!
Final choice is Gainward GeForce GTX 1060 with 6Gb memory on board. This producer has 6-pin power connection, so finally no problem with that :)
Thanks!
