Title: River flowing
Post by: filippo.previtali on 2016-09-19, 17:10:44
Hi all,
I really need your advice on a task I am going to face in few days.
Basically I need to render an animation of a river flowing under few bridges. The water will have to react with the bridge's plints and the boats and everything will be visible form the camera. It will also need to have the rigth details on ripple, waves etc.
I was thinking about real flow or phoenix. At the end of the day it's shouldn be difficult cause it will be a simple stream of water going on a confined space with few collision objects.
My concern is related to the compatibility with Corona. I am talking about velocity, foam channel, displacement etc.

If you have any other idea or solution for my task....It would be great if you can give me an advice.

Thank you very much indeed! :)

seems that Phoenix 3 will be compatible with Corona in future ... means that be able to directly render phoenix in Corona :]

Thanks a lot....unfortunately my deadline in is 1 month time. :(

so the best option is RF as alembic for directly render,

or composition of PHX via Vray and Corona ...

What realism is required? As a last resort you could try using some native 3ds Max features such as pflow...

Hi,
actually I don't need super photorealism. I think a water flowing with no collision though might look really weird.
Can particle flow simulate something similar? I have very little experience with particles.....

thanks for your help guys.

Do you have any precedent images of the look of river you are trying to replicate?

hard to give a suggestion without knowing a few things..

1. how far the camera is going to be away from the bridges
2. is the camera going to be moving?
3. depth and speed of the river.
4. murkiness of water.
etc etc.

Here is a quick example I whipped up.

It's a plane with some noise that has been stretched out,
with a displace spacewarp attached to it around the pillar
