Title: Hemispherical environment (with locked position) for animations
Post by: JeffPatton on 2016-08-04, 18:42:48
IMHO, it would be helpful to have an option to have an "anchored" hemispherical dome option for the HDR/EXR environment.  I have to do a lot of vehicle shots and could really use this ability for quick-n-dirty client previews (static & animated).

I do realize it can be done with actual geometry (squished spheres/cylinders/etc.) however that also includes extra steps to deal with shadows, lighting, texture scale, and reflections.  I'd much rather have a simple approach like what is used in VRed/IRay/Keyshot.  For reference & clarity, I'm referring to something like this: https://youtu.be/jxdtCDfRfTI?t=8m50s (https://youtu.be/jxdtCDfRfTI?t=8m50s)

Is there a chance to get something like this incorporated into Corona in the near future or perhaps it's already there and I'm just overlooking it?

Thanks!

Yes, absolutely yes :- ).

I pondered of doing it via hemispheric geometry like I still have to in Unreal 4, but then I felt quite dumb about that...

It's not useful just for animation, it would be godsend for product shots without backplates.

Exactly.  I've been using that geometry method to get this to "somewhat" work for a client.  However, it's not efficient with lighting & reflections (creates more noise) and a hassle at times to setup.
