Title: OpenEXR saving error
Post by: Dionysios.TS on 2016-07-21, 16:27:18
Hi guys, since yesterday I use 3ds Max 2017 and the latest daily Corona build and when I save an OpenEXR file I get a very weird result. (see attached image)

I am the only one here?

Thanks,

Good morning all, so anybody else is having problems saving to OpenEXR with the last daily build + 3ds Max 2017?

Thanks,

Hi all and excuse me for getting back on this topic but as I updated my workstation and install all the SW from scratch, I am still having the same OpenEXR problems while saving!

3ds Max 2017 + the last daily Corona build.

I guess the problem is not related to Corona but probably to 3ds Max. Can you please check if saving a 32bit OpenEXR file gives you a totally unusable image???

Thanks,

Can you please provide us with more info how to reproduce this?
-How are you saving the image in Max?
-How are you saving the render elements?
-What does your save EXR window look like?
-Are you storing the elements inside the main EXR, or saving them as separate EXRs?
-Is it CGeometry_NormalsGeometry or CGeometry_NormalsShading pass?
-Is it happening for one kind of pass only, or for any pass/image you save?
-The more info the better.

I tried that with the newest daily build and both CGeometry_NormalsGeometry and CGeometry_NormalsShading and also the main beauty image come out fine. I tried saving inside the EXR and as separate files. All works ok.

Maybe it's the software you are opening the files in? Does it also look wrong in the VFB? What software are you using for opening those EXRs? You can download the EXRs I rendered (attachment) and see if they are opening wrong too. They open fine for me.

Thanks for getting back!

Full Float 32bit and Half Float 16 are saved correctly now!
Integer 32 does the defect I was talking about but I guess in normal?!?!?

But I swear, with my previous workstation once I installed 3ds Max 2017 I had issues with Full float too!!!! O.o

I may be wrong, but I think it's a 3ds Max problem. Can you check if the same thing happens in scanline/other renderer?

Integer 32bit produced the same point image with other engines too but I don't know if is something normal or not...

make sure Setup for file is float 32bit not integer 32bit.
i have also had differences with tiles vs scanline in openexr.

try saving as corona exr too..

I had this problem only when I saved in 32bit integer, with corona and vray also. In your situation the issue occurred because of this settings.
