Title: Animation Flicker
Post by: andych82 on 2016-06-07, 01:02:40
Hello,

I was doing some quick animation tests today and ran into an issue I'm sure is something I'm forgetting. I've actually used corona in production now for animation and it worked well, but finding that this simple quick test scene I put together to actually test distributed rendering, is giving me flickering even with the flicker-free animation preset check. The only motion in this this currently is the camera. The scene has been leveled and brightened in post to make the artifacts more apparent, but you can still see the flicker slightly in the non-leveled straight from max EXRs. I'm also using max 2017 and corona 1.4

I'm attaching the scene here. I'm sure I forgot a setting, but figured someone here might be able to help me find what that is before I figure it out.

Thanks!
Andy

A lot of glossy surfaces + sharp lights, that is the enemy of all cached GI methods. I dont know what your goal is, but for this very specific scene I would recommend just using path tracing + path tracing. It should give faster and more accurate results.

I'm 995 sure that the problem is in the UHD... Are you using "Load from file".
Or is your UHD cache calculated  every frame?
I did a very complex animation, with a lot of lights and reflective object. All was movable. I render with PT+UHD (every frame). And I have no flickering.

I'm recalculating the UHD cache every frame for this animation.

I'll try PT+PT for this situation.

Thanks for the replies.

ye, in this case you can just calculate once, since the scene does not change and simply reuse, like cecofuli mentioned.
