hi guys, i am on PS cc 2014 and i find that when i open exr images i lose the background fully and i dont get the option as in this video below to change alpha channel data, and help?

I don´t know since which PS version Adobe made the exr loader to let the user choose how to handle transparency. But in any case afaik the loader never silently purged the background. Are you sure that you have not installed any custom plugin to load exrs? Could you attach a (small) example exr?
Good Luck
BTW: Should have been started in General CG discussion (https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/board,25.0.html)

actually i do have proexr installed which should have solved the issue but it seems it doesnt work most of the time, here is one exr that i recently rendered https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rnzebvp3uxod3rj/AAB4zJ-kviZhTdIP9MkJFlEca?dl=0

Yes, that´s what I assumed. Kick pro exr and you have the standard loader again like in the tutorial. I don´t know how to prevent proEXR from purging alpha btw.
Good Luck

Try in Photoshop: Layer -> Mask -> From Transparency

aha, removed it and now all is ok! idk why then i even bought it, just to read layered exr files when using vray but i can use the load file into stack option instead, uff anyway thanks for your help mate!

Mask -> From Transparency
Thanks, that made me test proEXR again, but I still can´t get this to work properly. It works somehow (screenshot: loaded exr via proEXR, Layer Mask -> From Transparency, disabled Mask).
There is no direct access in PS to (pixel-) transparency values imho, that´s the problem.
Is there really a option to restore the background in a way that the result is the same as loading the exr via standard loader with transparency as alpha channel? Being unsuccessful so far is the main reason I don´t use proEXR any more.
Good Luck

actually i found out, hold down alt when you open exr files with pro exr and it works normally

Ahh, I wonder how I could have missed this, thank´s a lot!
Good Luck!
