We have:
- preserve displacement
- preserve glass (refraction/reflection)
- preserve light material
- preserve portal material
- preserve unsupported materials
People want- preserve opacity
- preserve bump
-
Yes, I'd still want both of these implemented. Is this something considered doable for 1.5?
-
Yes, please :)
-
yes, 1.5 is realistic target here
-
BOTH please! yes yes yes! :D

All hail Onra! As he have spoken
We need this feature, its very important to have for those that want to do exteriors.
-
Yea, i'd love to see that implemented. Everyday time saver!
I think, that preserving refraction (by overriding refraction setup of override material on per material basis), would be doable and quite useful too.
-
One of our top missing features is Material Override with "Preserve MatID" and/or "Preserve Object ID".
Would make doing clay renders and excluding glass a million times easier...
Edit: We'd also need to make sure it worked with and respected, somehow, xrefs, so it would exclude by matID/geomID THROUGH an xref scene that's been loaded in. Otherwise in larger jobs using xrefs it wouldn't be useful.

So this has been a candidate for 1.4 already, hope it's going to be possible to add after 1.7 (knowing that the 1.7 schedule is already at 105%), would love to see this implemented!
-
I'm bumping this again to get dev's attention - is it on the list for 1.8 or even possible to squeeze in for 1.7? Please!
-
sorry, not for 1.7, but I want to focus more on smaller things like this for 1.8
-
Great to hear, looking forward!

Damn... we will never get it ;)
Good Luck

Preserve Light Materials maybe ?

Preserve Light Materials maybe ?
Hmmm not a bad idea actually. Not sure if it's easily possible but that would certainly be useful.

I wanted to do this as a quick & fun weekend project, but it turned out it would explode the complexity of parts of our code, so now we are focusing on other areas, such as memory usage

Does that mean we won't see any new preserve options in v2?
-
It is not entirely ruled out, but I would not count on it. Maybe "preserve light materials" and "preserve glass materials" would be easily doable
-
Heck, that's disappointing to be honest.

That would be great :)

Agreed, a good start for sure.
