Can somebody explain me the behaviour of the IR?
My render-settings are HD: If I hit IR, it renders in 573x322.
If I had a full render before, it will render at half resolution 960x540.
Can I change this? If not, do you think it would be nice to have? Like preset settings for: 10%,25%,50%,75% size.

Just drag the corners of the framebuffer window and it the resolution goes up :)
-
For me this feature is pretty much useless: I don't want to end up in a resolution like e.g 589x331.

Why? IR is for preview only. You should use the regular rendering or finals as IR uses slightly different render settings.

It's my kind of workflow. I light using IR- when I think it's done I save out a png from the vfb for approval.
Starting a new render for that would waste time.

How is launching IR any different than launching regular VFB?

sorry, Maru. I don't understand your question.

You think IR's resolution is percentage based, but it just uses the current window size. If you want 960*540, click render with that resolution, stop the render. Now your window is adjusted to that res and IR will render 960*540. This behavior is introduced to fully integrate into Quad Panels.
Maru meant, that it does not matter how big the frame size is,it can be random, as the purpose is preview. I understand your position, where this is not desired, as it shifts your understanding of the frame. You want the preview to be the same as the final frame size or same aspect at least. This is however not how IR is intended to be used and it conflicts with your preferences
I hoped I guessed right :D

thank you, SairesArt. You got me right. In Maya's render window there is a drop-down menu called 'test-resolution' with settings from 10 to 150% of your rendersettings, which is quite useful in my opinion.
