Could someone briefly explain me how to work with a proxy? Using native C4D render instancies probably has a slightly different philosophy.
You must first save object as a Cproxy object and then load it into any scater (mograph or some other)?
-
Sorry for such a late reply. The philosophy is that you save an object as proxy (usually a hi-res mesh), and then you can load it as a single object (to reduce scene file size - the external file is used, and to improve viewport performance - various display modes are available - point cloud, bounding box, ...). Then you can use this object in any way you wish - typically to scatter it over some area (grass, trees).
-
What suffix can be used for proxy object (any limitations).
Could workflow stay as is practice with cinema - instanced objects when set & checked to Render Instance would be automatically exported as proxies to pre-defined path (location). In same way (via instance objects) proxies could be referenced.
Got some problems with shading. Anyone else?

Clean geo (no overlapping, removed doubles, tris or quads - no matter...). Just to be sure before reporting to mantis.

doubledupe

for now if you want a proxy with a tree for example tree + leaves you must make 2 proxys :(
-
Yes re the shading issue. I reported it on mantis a while ago but they must still be getting round to fixing it. Its an odd one as you would think that would have been picked up internally as its pretty obvious! They aren't really that useful at the moment in appearance or workflow. Im hoping for the day we can just click an object and save as a proxy and then load it into another file with all materials etc. That's the dream!

that's reminds me the old days of vrayforc4d :)

Thanks for the answers.

Use Xref- Does the same thing
-
And XRefs are best way to create yourself some endless headages. They just dont work in a production environment.
-
Xref can be used best with highres models. It works if you are single artist
and have files on same computer but not if you have to exchange files in
production.
I converted materials to corona materials then use xref as normally.
