Hi I would like to have same suggest regarding the configuration of a small render farm.
At the moment I'm working on a 5960X workstation with 980Ti videocard that is more then sufficient for modelling.
Going on redering (Architectural redering large scene) the workstation is fast but not possible to have any possibility of modelling in Interactive rendering mode.
So my idea is to introduce in the network node for rendering.
The question is:
1) can be used during iteractive redering?
2) they improve speed in static redering?
3) Gigabit network is adeguate or it's necessary to move to a 10GB network?
Ciao

1) Interactive - Currently not.
2)Absolutely, using DistributedRendering.
3)Absolutely don't need 10Gbit, which is expensive to setup. Actually full big studios (think 50+ computers) are completely fine running 1gbit network.
{that said, 10gbit is very cool feature, esp. once you use fileserver with SSD discs and so, but really, not your case here}

Also note, DR is for rendering one image with multiple nodes. (Which has small delays for asset transfer and the DrServer starting 3dsmax on its own.)
If you want to render animation you'll have to use backbruner, as it assigns individual frames to a node, not all nodes rendering the same frame.
Just in case thats what you are after.
