Title: Light Samples Multiplier
Post by: mtanasiewicz on 2016-02-03, 16:14:03
I have changed to Corona about a year ago and do all the commercial work with it. For this year I haven't had a single scene that needed LSM higher than 1,5 and I mean both exterior and interior. I usually use LSM=1 because otherwise there always is much disproportion in pass noisiness. So what is the type of scenario that need LSM=2 that is set by default, or even higher?

I also set it to 1, but it's mainly because it's useful for debugging - it is faster and you are then sure that the result will tell which of the values should be increased.
But I would say that LSM@2 is useful if there are pronounced area shadows either from sun or lights. It is also useful when there are lots of lights in the scene.
It may be also set to 2 to prevent potential noise.

On my last scene I had 244 lights with Corona sun, lots of area shadows and I lowered the LSM to 1,5. It was the highest LSM I've evers used ;)
