My second monitor just died this morning and all additional 3ds max windows, like material editor, layer manager, etc. are unaccessible now. Is there a way to bring them back to main monitor? Usual trick with right clicking on taskbar icon and choosing move, does not work here, as it just moves main window. I think deleting 3dsmax.ini would help, but i rather keep this as a last resort, as i don't wanna loose all my customizings.

"Revert to Startup Layout" under Customize should help.

Thanks for info! Luckily i didn't have to try it out as my monitor decided to live another day, but one never knows when it will die for real :]

You may need to replace a capacitor. Open the monitor and check for any bulging capacitor.

The "move" trick should work, I just checked with material editor and you need to bring it up*, then press LAlt+Space, Down Arrow, Down Arrow, Enter, then move your mouse around without touching its buttons.
*bringing the editor up might be a bit tricky if you don't see it, so if pressing Alt+Space shows menu for the main window, this probably means that you need to press M again
*if you have other windows hidden, you would need to know their keyboard shortcuts

I have this problem when I remote in to my two monitor workstation from my one monitor computer at home. The move trick is a lifesaver, but does not work on all the dialogs in Max. This script from Lonerobot will get the dialogs back to your main screen without having to reset your UI: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/give-me-back-my-dialogs

Wow, so many great tips here, thanks guys, i definitely will keep them in mind, except that capacitor one - i don't want to be electrocuted yet :]
