Title: how to go about this (dark areas rendering slowly)
Post by: mitviz on 2015-11-27, 09:39:08
if i have an exterior scene and some large areas in shadow as the pic i have attached, should i use a light plain to illuminate the areas not in direct sunlight? i notice those areas take longer to clear up than anything else. by the way dont watch the noise now, i just did a fast shot as the render started just used this image to show the car underneath the shelter as an example

If you are saying we should ignore the noise visible in the image then I am not really sure what the problem you are talking about is. Can you be more precise or show a picture of the actual problem?
Generally I would advise to avoid adding any "fake" planes or lights to the scene.

i just wanted to show the space itself, it is an exterior scene with parking for cars but under the shed for the cars is where am asking if i light plane should be added there to speed up renderings in the shadow areas

It's very open space. Light can reach there without any trouble. Just render as it is and it should be fine.

it is but the shadow areas render darker than say in vray, and it takes ages to clear up in those areas too, my big issue too is am rendering at 5k and that kinda kills me

Are you using path tracing + UHD cache? The problem might as well be some user error, or problem in scene (materials, objects, etc). It is really hard to help without knowing any details...
