[Max] I need help! / Varying GI between renders
« on: 2022-01-17, 07:33:23 »
I had this issue with another scene where I spent hours trying to find the fault without success. In this fresh scene I'm getting the same problem where the GI shifts in value every time I render.

In the below example I move the render region down each time I restart the render to illustrate the shift in lighting. The past scene had more dramatic differences which makes it very difficult to conduct revisions on future versions of an image.

Render settings as shown

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Render only Masks issue
« on: 2020-12-08, 06:25:15 »
Hi all,

Have noticed that when trying to render only masks it wants to render all passes as normal except for the beauty. Meaning that reflection, refraction etc contain GI and all the rest which takes the normal length of time to render out. This seem to be due to some materials having propagate masks set to something other than 'never'. Would it be possible to have this feature sped up especially when propagate masks is set to refraction only? This is especially useful for glass materials and generating masks behind windows etc

[Max] I need help! / Caustics fail to work since Corona 5
« on: 2020-11-20, 02:23:42 »
Hi all, I'm having this strange issue where a scene which was rendering water caustics inside Corona 5 is now having issues with Corona 6

I've noted a few variables where if I isolate the pool (pictured) it renders normally after 2 minutes. But when the full scene is loaded, it can sit there for half an hour without any caustics generated, or very tiny dots scattered around the frame (also pictured).

The scene here has glass which doesn't have caustics ticked, and that's pretty much it. Deleting all the glass also doesn't change things. Scene complexity isn't high at all, not that it should matter as it rendered just fine with Corona 5 - same computer, same render times.

Are there any dev mode settings I can tweak to fix this up? Thanks in advance :)

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Caustics Black Squares
« on: 2020-09-22, 12:52:18 »
Hi all,

Am receiving this weird bug in my pool scene with caustics. The attached image is of the caustics pass at 100% resolution and rendered for quite some time to reduce noise (4.6%). The pool water is made up of a segmented plane with a disp modifier with some volumetrics to darken the water gradually. All rendered inside Corona 6 but I believe this was also happening in Corona 5.

Any solutions for this?

Cheers

[Max] I need help! / Xref not rendering over Backburner
« on: 2020-01-13, 04:24:39 »
Hi all,

We're having a small issue with some scenes in our office where xrefs are completely failing to render when sent over backburner. Most scenes work just fine, but we have a couple that are repeat offenders.

Anyone had this issue or can offer a fix?

Currently using:
3ds Max 2019
Backburner 2019
Corona 5 stable build

[Max] I need help! / Freeze on Parsing
« on: 2019-09-26, 14:19:23 »
Hi guys, thanks for reading

Our studio has been having a few issues lately with scenes hanging at the parsing stage when sent over backburner (no DR). The only pattern we've observed is that the scenes fail to get past the parsing stage when motion blur is enabled. But this is also a gamble as it isn't always the case. Are there any suggested workarounds or things to look out for with this? Motion blur is needed unfortunately.

Details on the scene: Shopping centre. Heavy use of Xrefs with multiple forestpacks within each. Most assets are proxied. In this case we are also using Anima to produce a timelapse effect with motion blur.

3ds max 2019
Corona 4.1

Thank you!

[Max] I need help! / [solved] Preview Proxy Mesh
« on: 2019-04-19, 19:46:37 »
Hi, not sure if this should be a feature request or whether there is a workaround or not.

I'm working with Quixel Megascan objects and need to have a quick and visually responsive way to bash objects together but to also use proxies to keep scene file sizes down and optimised. I can use the Substitute modifier to replace the high poly mesh with a lower LOD mesh but this doesn't seem to work for proxies. Is there another way or can something like the preview proxy mesh in Vray be implemented?

Thank you!

[Max] Bug Reporting / Reflection Override Fireflies
« on: 2018-11-06, 16:38:52 »
Hi, I understand this issue was raised a few years ago and am wondering if there was a workaround developed or whether this is still planned to be 'fixed' (as I believe this is all pretty hacky anyway).

Issue being: HDRI map inside Reflection Override creates heavy firefly noise in the image despite low noise level overall and denoising enabled. Image example below

[Max] I need help! / Same scene, different render times
« on: 2018-07-25, 21:06:06 »
Hi all,

I've been scratching my head over this for the past few hours. Same scene, but the camera which is sitting outside the doorway takes ~8 times longer to render. This is for an animation so really need some suggestions as to why this might be happening.

Tried so far:
-made sure the ivy is not using an alpha (all geo) and has a blur value of 1.0
-glass is using thin refractions without any volumetric colouring

I've tried the sampling focus pass to get more information but it didn't really give clear results.

As for lighting, I have sun and sky for the environment, large filler plane lights along the interior, lots of spot lights without IES, a few sphere lights for pendants, and I'm using CoronaLightMtl with emit light turned off for the inside of the spotlights etc. LightMtl behind the shop logos has emit turned on but that is the only one used.

Any ideas why this is such a drastic difference? Thank you!

[Max] Bug Reporting / Backplate + Sun causing shadow bug
« on: 2018-03-06, 13:05:42 »
This has been posted before, but I wanted to see if anyone had a workaround of any sort to deal with it

The issue occurs when a scene backplate using CoronaLightMtl is setup with a CoronaSun (most evident when sun is facing the camera at a low angle), there is a large shadow artefact which appears on surfaces with less than 0.8 glossy reflection. This becomes a huge issue when creating images using drone photography which only wraps around a cylinder correctly rather than a dome or sphere which could be plugged into the environment map channel. So essentially, any shaders with low glossy values are vulnerable to some very ugly jaggy shadows creating a highly unrealistic result.

I'm wondering if any others have found a way to work around this as I understand this bug may be too difficult to completely resolve. Even implementing some kind of cheat in the next version (I'm using 1.7 hotfix 2) solely for these situations would be great.

As the title suggests, is there a tool out there to convert a folder of .max files to .cgeo? We moved from vray and now need to convert a load of models over to corona proxy for ease of use. Thank you!

Hi all,

I was wondering why when I send a render to the network via Backburner, the render preview doesn't show up on the server PC? We have an older Windows 7 PC that shows it fine, but all the other Windows 10 machines are only showing the render dialogue box. Can be difficult when I can't see which computers are working in DR and general progress of the render.

Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks!

[Max] I need help! / Corrupt / Problematic Max Files
« on: 2017-06-08, 14:52:49 »
Our archviz studio recently transitioned from Vray to Corona due to how amazing it is, but we seem to be getting a lot of recurring issues with Max files not loading. We are solving this by trying several other machines to load the scenes and then saving them out again, but it has become quite a nuisance and painfully time wasting. Especially when a scene won't load when you saved it yourself only an hour ago...

Has anyone else been experiencing something similar? Could it be Corona, or just a strange Max bug?

We're using Corona 1.6 and 3ds Max 2016.

Thanks!
