Vray render

A touch of DOF, and this will be photorealistic, I think this is very nice looking.

Looks like you put too much effort into making it look like a photo and DOF is too much pronounced.

Hi Maru-- for this image i didnt add a window since it wont be seen on the image, instead just a small opening for the hdri to bounce light.

Romullus- thanks
Hleandre- for the wall texture, i got DL it in cgtextures and made some bump maps from photoshop. nothing special about it, bump map was 0.2

The intensity of the DOF makes this feel like the models are "teeeny tiny"

its almost like the furniture is made out of match sticks or balsa wood or something.

Not sure this is the most successful image. All a bit strong on effects for me

I like the last one concept. Do you have any automated method to make wires?. I need to make a loot and don´t want to make it by hand. xD

Hi Adanmq, well i use marvelous designer co create those wires on the trees. what i did was i export the tree to marvelous and just made a thin strip on cloth and duplicate it than drop it on the tree according to what you like. its pretty nice though since you can manipulate the simulation on how your wires to be place on the tree. and last export the mesh from MD to Zbrush 4r6 and remesh it to create quads, which later i turned into create shape in 3dsmax.

Decided to model this simple yet eye catching light bulbs, that me and my colleague saw while eating at Dominos pizza. This bulb was rendered using corona with real time dof..
I use studio hdri on lighting this scene. :P

this model is free for download on my blog www.dartofang.com

so here's the first batch of interior renders

I called this project " CORONA house"  dedicated to the Corona team. :P
Thanks guys for making this powerful rendering software. Really fast and easy to use, not to mention it gives more realistic feel and look on the renders.

So my workflow here is I set up 3 VRAY HDRI  (day, sunset, night) so I can just choose the lighting that looks good for the camera shots. I used Snip tool from windows to take snapshot on my settings so whenever I want to change back and fort i don't need to guess on the values of the lights.  I also added some Corona lights and ies fpr the interiors. This would be my second concept and design for interior and exterior rendering. I use 3dsmax for modelling and Marvelous Designer for simulating the cloth and Ivy Generator. For the texture  of the house, I use cgtexture maps, UVWmapping with different channels, VMPP, some premade models from Archmodels, Igrass, Icube, Vizpark, etc... and some furnitures are modelled by me where you can download these on my website www.dartofang.com  I usually save the render without editing the contrast and EV of Corona's ColorMAP, in that way I can easily color correct in Photoshop or AE. Some of the renders have real time DOF and some are just zdepth.

Thanks for looking.
and Many Thanks to Corona Team!!!

exterior shots will be uploaded soon... ^_^

Hi Peter

excelent work as always :-)

I got two questions:
-Why would you make use of the snipping tool?
Whenever I use different HDRI's for different camera's in my scene I keep the differen't VRAY HDRI maps in Slate and name each according to the camera it will be used for.
But maybe you are talking about individual lights in your scene? In that case I switch them off or on with the help of the lightlister.
And in rear cases, I make use of an excell file with all the info I need per camera. The last is maybe the same as you making use of the snipping tool :-D

-Marvelous Designer:
It looks like a great tool, but I find it rather expensive for the times I will have to use it. Did you buy the perpetual licensce?
Or do you know if they offer any kind of Lite version?

Great work! I really appreciate the amount of work you put into crafting this scene. I particularly like this shot:

Great lighting and atmosphere, I love the shadows on the floor and subtle reflectivity. Sweet.

Amount of detail is great! I think first shot has too strong DoF, making it look like a miniature. And you could perhaps try a view with some lower sun angle. Now, there feels to be strong imbalance between light and shadow, too much light and too little shadow :)

Looks excellent! Has the quality of a still life painting about it.

Does the montage image show the actual sequence in which you built this up or is it variations on the scene made afterwards?

I would say that the pale green sauce/dressing has a more solidified appearance than maybe it could.
I don't know if that's something that would be addressed through the geometry or the shader.

Yeah, i think the shader.. :) and for the montage images, those are just draft renders for composition and color correction in photoshop.

the glassware are done in zbrush, broken glass in rayfire, Corona v6, photoshop and after effects :)
I use the zdepth pass to have more control on the dof. and some elements like refract and reflect.
overall just 80 passes.. there's still noise on those glass mats but i think its just enough.

I like all of your pictures. Maybe they are not perfectly photoreal, but they have some artistic quality in light and materials, like classic still life paintings.

I guess it´s just a chromeball probe of his desk in the environment map. I would realy like to have probe projection in corona bitmap as environment mode. The only way at the moment is using V***-HDRI as far as I know. Please someone correct me if I´m wrong (I would like to be wrong in this case ;)

Good Luck

You can also convert the chrome ball into spherical map using some dedicated software (possibly free). I remember doing this some 10 years ago on the Facepunch forums and rendering hl2 models in my room. :)

I also had painful experience using mirrorball HDR for enviroment making visuals for this

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4714680/?ref_=nm_flmg_vsl_1

But those mirrorball images didnt look so good.

A little oftopic, cgdigi how did you got the camera man refflection in the scene? Is this 3d model or cutout person?

Hi Nik, its a cut out person :) I only use corona lights for lighting up this scene.
that background reflecting those spheres are just plane with texture map and corona light material.

Downloads are now hosted by Corona team. thanks guys!!! :) Enjoy.

"A day in the Sun" is a series of corona renders done for my personal project at the end of spring. Decided to make this kind of project to test the exterior lighting using only corona sun and sky. I was amazed how fast it response on the corona interactive viewport while i was switching from different lights.
Done in Corona 1.2, 3dsmax, marvelous designer and zbrush.

Someone on this forum already said that I only pay attention to DoF ;) so yeah, DoF looks strange in the 2nd picture - there are some sharp elements inside. Is it from Corona?

I'd echo that statement, somewhat pointlessly! This thread is always a good bet for something uniquely interesting and it does have a Fine Art feeling in it's style. Often lots of nice tonal contrast similar to Renaissance still life also.

Compared to your really nice scultp and detail in the lid, the table texture and normal map look too low res.
Also my logic for rice grains would be, that they need SSS.

Looking real nice though.

Thanks for the comment SairesArt, yeah i already replace now the wood texture with high res ones, actually those are herbs for the tea not rice grains :) need to darken the texture. :)

There is something strange inside the dark lampshade - is it the light bulb shining through? I'm not sure if it looks realistic. I'm just curious what it is.

Pigeon Loft is a small studio space at the rooftop of a building.
The concept of the interior is a mix of modern and rustic design.
A small apartment yet you can feel a big space to design, unwind and enjoy the view...
It comes with a built in fireplace for winter season.

Too bad you didn't participate in the Evermotion challenge. This could well fit in. There are however some improvements that could be made by the shading, your scenes always have this sharp but kinda flat vibe to it. Don't say I don't like it, it's just, well... different.

Always interesting to see new work from you.

Daniel-- sometimes i use Corona DOF,or  sometimes i use the zdepth pass and use the plug called http://www.frischluft.com/lenscare/
or both to reduce the noise of the corona dof.  Will show that on the tutorial on how i will post process my renders.

anyway heres a 90% progress for this shot only. I still need to add a caramel on top of  this sliced cake.

"Cake Please" is a personal project to practice my zbrush since it been a while I haven't
play with it and also to push my render as good as possible using Corona Renderer.
I have a lot of fun doing this project and learned some tricks in zbrush.
The compositions are inspired from different photos in the internet.
I know its too much images for a cake render but i couldn't risist the rustic look of it
everytime i change the camera angle. :P Hope you drool all over the images as much as i do.
I will be making a free video tutorial of this soon which will be break into sections covering
how i set up my light using Corona Renderer  and export, importing in zbrush
and detailing the cake, texturing and and last is post processing.

So stay tune on my facebook page for the announcement.
https://www.facebook.com/dartofang?ref=hl

FYI: I did 2 version of the cake and a lot of changes on the props to get the composition that I wanted.

Software:
3dsmax 2014
Zbrush 4r7
Corona 1.3
Adobe Photoshop
Frischluft
Advance Painter

beautiful but too plastic for me, chocolate should be more matte if it is chips http://canadacook.ru/uploads/shokoladnaya-kroshka.jpg
Strawberry too very plastic, same for surface desk, wood
the dough should not be glossy at all but it shine at angle
glass vice versa should have more glossy more reflective then cream.

But really great work

Even if I will hate myself for that and appreciate every freebie, but I realy like your models and you made so many gifts on your website, so I think you should sell your outdoorset on common websites.
They are much more "PRO" then many other models :-)

Sorry for my bad english and explanation sometimes. I tried my best to explain everything on this tutorial but if there are some unclear things, then just give me a buzz here or on my website and would be glad to answer your question.
Thanks for looking and stay tuned for the part 3 (decimation, exporting in zbrush to 3dsmax) and part 4 (post production)

You are the master! I really enjoyed your lighting setup video you posted - I've been waiting for something like that for a while. Although I find it strange to use such high values for highlight compression. Also the light multiplier of 250 is very high in C4D, is the light default multiplier in 3ds max 50 the same as in C4d?

Hi Mikenz-- glad to know it give you on some ideas. the light value was 250 since the direct input is a dark blue gray color to add that studio rustic feel for the whole shot. in 3dsmax the default of the light multiplier is also 50.

Check out the classroom on their official site, they are very good at explaining their product. More companies should do what they do. In the case of Zbrush, tutorials are essential. The learning curve is steep but fun! :)

I hated learning Zbrush(and probably have all forgotten by now, because not using it). If you're used to a 'traditional' 3d-package you're pretty much screwed. Everything is different! :) But it is a very good software and everything makes sense in a way. I'll return when they develop a VR-version... :D

hey thanx guys.. I remember last time I checked z-brush site is about 3-4 years ago, and it seems so complex but powerful tool for sculpting. and as you said they introduce the product very well and detail explanation for every class tutorial.
of course I will try it asap :D
