BUILD Feb 3

When you change the output size for width and height the interactive render size doesn't update to that size input when you click it.

You have to do a proper render and then it works.

32
Updating to this latest 03.02 build stops the corona VFB from showing when clicking render.
  • Resting setting has no effect.
  • Clicking on Show VFB in general settings has no effect.
  • Resetting the scene works though.
Attached in zip file is my settings I use for creating assets.

Is this a bug or will I just need to recreate the settings and save that .rps file. I also noticed before that some settings where not saving such as the render elements 'elements active' checkbox.

Thanks.

I've a problem in the daily build 24.01.15. It crashes max 2015 when opening a .mat file which has one of the materials as a custom object.

I can send you the .mat file for testing?

The name of the mat inside the .mat file is '_Dirt Trick'

34
Is there a function to close the VFB?

No matter what the line:
CoronaRenderer.CoronaFp.showVfb()

returns 0 both when it's open and closed. Thanks.

Hi guys,

Script here: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/regionrender

I've developed this script solely with Corona in mind. Think of it as a mini-render dialog and test render tool. I have the script hosted on scriptspot and I wanted to share with you guys. See screenshot  below. As you can see from the old version I've added quite a few additions.

Some things about this script:
  • When selecting from the dotNet dropdown it selects and changes the current viewport to that camera.
  • Region and blowup toggles
  • Displace toggle. Disables displace and therefore scene parsing. Good for test rendering.
  • Resume render
  • Two x's left and right are multiplying x2 (left click) dividing/2 (right click) the resolution of the output for both x & y.
  • x in the center is for multiplying x2 (left click) dividing/2 (right click) the resolution of the output for x and y together.
  • Dialog remembers screen position.

HELP WANTED
What I'm missing from the functionality is:

  • I want the default text of the Combobox to be 'Choose Camera...' with a list of cameras below which I already have.
  • Renaming of the selected camera directly inside the ComboBox. Tabbing or hitting return will rename the camera.
  • If I change a spinner/s it will rename the selected camera. (See screenshot of script, I want the 900 + 900 to change the camera name to 'Camera002 900x900')
  • If I tab out of the ComboBox then it will go over to the Wpx: spinner.
  • When a camera with correct formatted name is selected form the dropdown box is selected i.e 'cam name 1000x600' then the spinner dimensions change and so does the output resolution in max. This will allow the output resolution to be automatically changed depending on the camera name.
  • Callback functionality. Basically if I right click in the viewport when Region render is active then the button will de-active also along with the region render.
My future plans...
Are mainly allowing to render out the preselected cameras but for now I'm happy to get the above to work.

See attached. Unticked the box and material still renders.

Using: Build timestamp: Jan  2 2015 21:02:19

See attached error I'm getting when render dialog is open and I try to render. I need to close it and press F9 to start a render. I have no options selected for file-outs like the error suggests.

Hi Keymaster, Forest packs *NEW edge function needs a custom shader.

See reply on iToo's forum: http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=2634.0

Quote
Hi, Edge mode is a feature that works at render time, removing elements which are outside of the scatter area. Therefore, it requires to implement a custom shader with certain capabilities, but actually only V-Ray allows that.

For other renderers, we are working in an interface which can be used by the developers of these engines, to write its own shader. But since each render engine and company is different, that such feature is finally implemented will depend of them.

More info to be found here at the edge feature:

Before I start, I know this doesn't probably belong here but I have yet to see an over clocking thread on here so here goes: (I know people on here have OC'd their machines at some stage)

So. I've built a custom machine and have been using the following specs below for 6yrs now and I think I owe it to my Extreme edition gear now to get overclocking. I'm ashamed to say I've not done it until now (maybe wise to save my CPU, I dunno). But I lie, at the start I did try with the automatic Overclocking software that came with the motherboard but I just kept getting BSOD's and left it at factory setting until now.

The last two days I've been trying to get stable results without BSOD's every other attempt or PC just automatically shutting off. (I'll explain further down about my failed attempts).

------------------------------------------------------------------
SPEC:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
CPU: Intel® Core(TM) i7 CPU 965 @ 3.20GHz Extreme edition
MB: Rampage II Extreme (Intel® LGA1366 Platform & Intel® X58/ICH10R chipset)
RAM: Crosair 12288 MBytes DDR3
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2
Primary HD's: 2 x WD VelociRaptor 300 GB SATA Hard Drives @ 10,000RPM
Secondary HD's: 2 x WD VelociRaptor 1000 GB Hard Drives @ 7,200RPM
MONITOR: 32" HP LP3065 Wide LCD
COOLING: Noctua NH-U12P SE1366
------------------------------------------------------------------

I've mentioned the whole spec so you can get an idea of the system I got all those years back (A bit OTT come to think of it). Anyway, cooling system is pretty okay. I just want to achieve a realistic 3.9Ghz or even 4Ghz at a push. I've seen on other forums that they achieve 4.0 on air-cooled systems with ease. Maybe my CPU is past it OR I do believe it may be down to reapplying thermal paste and reseating the cooler?!

------------------------------------------------------------------
OC attempts (Changed factory values in bold)
I've tried just stepping up the ratio to x 27 (133Mhz bus speed x 27=3.591Ghz) without any other adjustments and it fails. It says CPU temp too high after saving the BIOS settings and restarting. The tutorial I followed was from here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/i7-c0-d0,2386-5.html where they managed 4.0GHz but I nver even got close to that.

I tried other settings but the best and most stable attempt is the multiplier of x26 (Increased 135Mhz bus speed x 26=3.510Ghz) and disabling any power saving options such as speedstep etc. I still have to do a stress test on that yet though. At least it's not shutting down. CPU temps are still higher than I'd like at 70degC Average.

As you can see there's not much difference there so do you think 3.510Ghz is the limit or does the VCORE need adjusting? I followed the exact vales in the tomsharedware link but nada y nada (nothing)!! and have tried in vain.
------------------------------------------------------------------

I just thought I'd forget about it until I get some advice by 'more knowledgeable people' as to what may be the root of the problem. I just hope this isn't too off-topic.

On forums like I said they say it's probably the readjustment of the cooler and thermal paste. I DO NOT KNOW! Probably could be a busted CPU or something else.

I'm eager to get this thing working whatever way possible. The results are really good (See gif) at an OC that I got working. (36sec / 17% improvement on 2:54min test render at stock) Although, I'd love to push it to 4.0Ghz to see the improvement (I bet it's unreal) but I suppose that means water cooling which I don't mind installing.

I'm looking to see what peoples experiences are with this sort of thing and if they can help me out then great. The post is a bit long winded, so I won't blame you if you hit the backspace key :P)

I'm creating a script and was wondering if the material slot for the mtl override is exposed through maxscript. I'm using Corona version: Alpha v7.1, Maxsdk version: 2014.

See attached what I mean.

Once finished I will be posting the script. BTW I've tried most of the script settings output in the listener that I thought were it but doesn't seem to be anything.

show renderers.current.Material_override_enabled I've used for a check box but I'm looking for something like:
show renderers.current.Material_override_matslot

I was thinking of getting a graphics card and I was wondering if anyone out there has bought the Gigabyte GTX Titan Z. It's reduced from 2599.95€ to 989,95€ at the link below. My motherboard only supports PCIe 2.0 at the moment but I was thinking of upgrading that later on. (The card is backwards compatible)

http://www.coolmod.com/tarjeta-grafica-gigabyte-gtx-titan-z-12gb-gddr5-precio?virtuemart_category_id=12

Specs for this card:
Brand: EVGA
Model: 12G-P4-3990-KR
Interface: PCI Express 3.0
Chipset Manufacturer: NVIDIA
GPU: GeForce GTX TITAN Z
Core Clock: 705MHz
Boost Clock: 876MHz
CUDA Cores: 5760
Effective Memory Clock: 7000MHz
Memory Size: 12GB
Memory Interface: 768-Bit
Memory Type: GDDR5
DirectX: DirectX 12 (feature level 11_0)

Mostyn Gallery in Llandudno by Ellis Williams Architects

Please let me know what you think. If you want to know anything about it just ask. I'm no expert in Corona as this was my first 'proper' try with it.

Modelled:
By importing a photo taken with my phone and perspective fixed in photoshop, camera matched in 3ds max and modelled from that.
Lighting:
Lighting by HDR and corona sun
Other lights: See attached screenshots
Materials:
Walls: ConcreteBunker0016 from CG Textures used. http://www.cgtextures.com/texview.php?id=5886&PHPSESSID=qr2gj5cdls12gksb619ucjs635
Took image 2,3,4 & 5 into photoshop and stitched them together to create a 6000 x 3600 texture.
Floor: Just a hybrid of above texture blended with itself (Offset layer every time) a few times.

Render time: 36hrs @ 2000 x 2625px with 221 passes. (Would this be normal for my spec does anyone know?)
CPU: i7 965 (not overclocked)

Again please feel free to C&C.

See screenshots of material node. Bitmap in the diffuse is selected for show in viewport. And viewport is set to show bitmaps, yet no map shows in viewport.

Is this a bug for anyone else?

Using:
C7.1 'Build timestamp: Jul 21 2014 00:29:08'
W7 x64
3ds Max 2014. SP5
Latest drivers for 2 x Radeon HD 4870 X2 up to date. It's latest is the catalyst 13.9 which is now in legacy build so I doubt any update will be about soon.

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Tiny green spots in render
« on: 2014-01-22, 23:33:06 »
Please see a test render, render set-up and sun settings. It's my 2nd try using corona and I love the simplicity of it. Problem I'm getting is the render has tiny little green spots (some circled in green - there are too many to circle!). Has anyone dealt with this problem before and know the cause?

FYI:
- Grass was created with a script found here: http://www.themantissa.net/blog/2014/1/20/grass-generator-v1 (see settings used attached).
- With the script it assign any number of ids up to 100! (I used 5) I then applied a multi-subobject material with 5 ids also with various different shade of green. No transluency or anything fancy. Just standard corona mat with different diffuses.
- Converted it to corona proxy.
- Used Cscatter to scatter it over a plane.

Please feel free to ask for more info if needed. Thanks.
