The only problem I see with OCIO is that it is only a view transform, so you can't save the image from the VFB with transform applied. This is the annoying way Vray has of doing things.
I guess in Corona you could just save the image as is shown in the VFB or make the OCIO apply internally in some advanced option, so people don't mess with it.

What is clear to me, is that we want ACES tone mapping applied as a standard, just like in UE

added one new crazy idea...

jajaja for that we would all need quantum computing XD

What other material studios are there out there?
I Wish connecter had like an auto tag feature for commercial sets like archmodels. Would make finding assets alot faster but hopefully i can get our studio onboard to start tagging assets as and when we acquire them.

Other than Connecter there is this payed plugin. It's pretty much the same idea. https://3d-kstudio.com/product/project-manager/

I use Connecter only for assets. No materials or HDRI. The changed a lot of things, you should read the documentation carefully and this article is helpfull
https://blog.connecterapp.com/connecter-is-the-cg-artists-lightroom-6df3490524d

It depends all on the what you final purpose is and who works with the assets.

This was very interesting. So we basically have all we need in Corona but the UI is a bit all over the place.

We can already do this with the curves or use a LUT from Adan Martin which emulate the behaviour of different photo stock.

The only thing different in UE4 is that they use a specific curve with base values, in this case ACES.

So to sum up, we get rid of the Filmic highlight and shadows and replace it with a new section called tonemapping or filmstock.
Of course you can deactivate it like all the sections in the Corona VFB. ;)

That is pretty much what you guys are asking for

35
We do have histogram :- ) just click on 'curves'.

jajjaja that's true, forgot about that.

Perhapt there should be a stickied SAT Thread (Small annoying things)

That is a very good idea

37
OK, this thread explains why there is a new feature in the poll called "rework tone mapping"

I totally agree with Ondra on reworking the usability. I would start by taking a good look at Camera RAW and how it works. The fact that you can change values with the arrow keys is very convenient. I also like the curves they have implemented in CR. The curves we have now in Corona have to many options and you can't do anything very precisely.

Even white balance should work like in PS, with a blue-yellow slider and a green-magenta one. This was already pointed out by Juraj.

That being said, the color wheels some programs use are awesome. Specially for some color grading.

On top of that I would really like to see a Histogram and maybe even a Spectrogram and other useful tools for video.

This might seam a little overboard but I feel that doing POST in Corona should be the goal. I don't want to open up a separate piece of software just to do 3 things because I can't do them in Corona.

This would give people a very fast way to send WIP to clients and since we have Corona's CIE, you can always open the render and change any configuration.

But of course, for this to work the tools provided have to be as good as the ones you get from your usual POST software.
This means that Corona has to become aware of color space or at least give you the option to load you monitor color correction.

That brings me to the Filmic Highlight and Shadows. Just like Juraj said, they shouldn't be in Corona if they don't work properly.

As far as usability goes I would definitely appreciate a change on the whole VFB. Some buttons should be implemented or seperated.
Finally the history should NOT delete and work just like the one in Vray, where you can load your POST configuration.

Whatever the devs do I hope some of this is taken into consideration.

Definitely annoying. Seams kind of silly that this hasn't been fixed yet.

So where should we post about this, is it a bug or should we go to the feature request??
So many threads around here.

Thanks Juraj, that clears things up.

So most of this could be resolved by getting a new VFB inside Corona.
One that does correct Filmic tonemapping and where you could preview an image in a certain color space.

Basically what you can already do in Vray when you load the ICC profile of your monitor.

As for Max, you have to request the color management and maybe we get lucky. Here is the link https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-ideas/implement-color-management-in-3ds-max-support-for-icc-luts-etc/idi-p/6790724

As for Lambert, I guess you should just stick to shiny surfaces XD

Interesting stuff here as always.

About the howl ACES debate, is there any significant advantage we would get from using ACES. This all sounds very complicated and yet I don't really se a big change.

To be honest, I would much rather prefer a wider color space inside of Max. Getting a color managed 3d application like Maya or Blender, I think even Cinema is color managed (not sure).
This would help when inputting real life colors and if we are talking about REC 2020, we could use that color space directly to work in and output images.

The second question is about the ACES compression dubcat uses, I know I read an article years ago about it. Is it somehow related to the ACEScg workflow?? Can we use it independent?? And why should we use it at all?

Finally, what is up with Lambert model for diffuse?? What is Vray using? And how would a different model be better??

BTW. Love that Canon EOS LUT

the hybrid mode is CPU and GPU computing samples separately and then combining them in the image, it is not one rendering process split between the two. So yes, you get both CPU and GPU busy, so the rendering speed is CPU+GPU, but it cannot be used to circumvent weakness of either part (which is usually what we talk about when thinking about hybrids - like evaluating all the complex shaders on CPU and using GPU just for its brute force).

Interesting to know. IMO Hybrid for Corona could be great with the new ray tracing on Turing.
The idea would be to use Tensor cores for ray tracing that is instant, so you could calculate UHD Cache in realtime.

This might be used like the new denoiser you guys are working one. So in general we could use GPU for all sort of additional calculations, like bloom, glare, or even displacement.

But I guess we will have to wait and see where NVIDIA is going with this.

Interesting material. Looks very nice.
I thought it's just paint with a higher IOR but never had to make this one before so my opinion doesn't count XD

What does  the metalness map look like. I seams just white.

PBR! Cmon everybody! Sing it with me now! PBR!

Don't we already have PBR with the GGX Shader? What else do people need. If I remember correctly, Corona did even adopt glossy Fresnel before Vray.

As for the Albedo Warning, just create a MaxStart file with all the elements you use the most. Done.

I would rather want to see the new adaptive Dome inside Coronas Environment, so no portals anymore. That would be a nice thing.
While we are at it, some override so you can drag images into the Material Editor and they are Corona Bitmaps instead of the default Max bitmaps. That would be amazing.

As for Cryptomate, it would be great if you could use it inside of CIE and simply select colors and save masks.

And can we pleas get the Corona Frame Buffer to load the monitor ICC profile automatically or at least an option to do so like in Vray.

Oh, and stop deleting the history when closing a scene. I never understood the point here, why not leave it saved until you decide to delete the images.

I'll stop now before I get even more ideas XD

Very interesting stuff has already been said. I do agree with most of it. I have friends working at companies that only do archviz and they usually have some highly skilled people dedicated to modeling the more complex stuff.
So the basics get covered with purchased assets and from the existing library. Everything else gets assigned based upon modeling skills.

Plants are all bought. Although I have to say, I'm not happy at all with the models nor the shaders. If you do exterior shots, than you might consider special software to model vegetation. This is only a must if your client needs to see the exact vegetation he plans on using latter on.

Textures? I usually don't do textures, which is kind of surprising to be honest. Most of the textures are directly from clients or purchased and get refined. We do a lot of work for the ceramic industry and they hand over the textures for the tiles. These are huge textures but come with a printer profile in CMYK so they need adjusting. Everything else that needs textures I already have something similar in my library.

Lately we do more product shots, rather than archviz. In this case you get assigned an art director which can be someone working at the same company that orders the images or it's a creative agency or a design studio working for them.
They give you directions about colors and the decorative assets they want. The also tell you about the mood you should aim for. This is very relevant for your lighting setup.

As for job applicants, pleas no wireframe shots. They don't really tell me anything I want to know. We could certainly make a whole post just about what you should put on your application.
I would say that it depends on what you are applying for basically it all comes down to the job description.
Meaning, what the job description is.

Thank you, guys!
Sorry for the late reply but it's my vacation time. : )

Thanks for your reply. Don't worry, sadly I have little time to read trough the forum.

I used to work with ArionFX when dealing with rendering on V-ray but I don't find this need anymore with Corona. Maybe just slightest adjustments are all it takes. I always try to minimalize the amount of necessary post-work.

That is exactly the way I do it right now. Always try to solve everything before render-time and than go to post. Right now I am looking into CaptureOne, since I don't see a reason to use video editing software that is far to complicated and I'm getting tired of Photoshop and CameraRaw. It looks like a god alternative and the tools are very well designed.

Congrats again on your win and enjoy your vacation
