I see many 3dsmax compatible corona materials available on this site for download. How do we get these ported/converted over to work with the C4D version of the Corona Renderer?

I am afraid there is no "cross-platform" material format that we could use. We are planning to either re-create the 3ds Max libraries for C4D, or create new C4D material libraries from scratch.
There are also some 3rd party websites with Corona materials, such as http://www.corona-materials.de/

How about MDL support implementation? That way we could have materials that's interchangeable not only between Corona for Max, C4D, Sketchup, etc, but between other renderers too (Vray, Iray, MR).

I'm not Corona Team member. Everything i say, is my personal opinion only.

That sounds like a wonderful idea, as long as MDL handles all material settings (or at least the vast majority).
