[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Bump Problem
« on: 2019-08-13, 10:06:22 »
Can't take a look at the scene now. But from images I gather it's the texture Sampling. MipMap to be specific. I don't know what they did to it or if it's a bug, but from my experience it just got worse.

See what happens, if you disable it (set Tex. Sampling: from MipMap to None).

You´re totally right!

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Bump on stacked materials
« on: 2019-08-12, 17:48:06 »
Hi guys!
I´m about to re-render an older project because of some changes. Last time I rendered it was in may this year. Now I´m getting a slightly different result. I rendered a white plastic bottle and the newly rendered one has some kind of bump.
Is it possible that I´m getting this error because of the changes in stacking materials?

After trying different things I found out that the bump results from a second, older material on the object. In my opinion it shouldn´t be seen at all. In addition its behavior is really strange. It only pops up whith a strength of 1%. If I change the strength to 100% it´s getting much smoother instead of higher.

I attached a sample scene. Maybe I´m just totally confused because it´s monday morning :-)

some further infos:
Corona Version: Build timestamp: Jun 17 2019 18:34:35
Version: 4.0 (core 4)
Cinema version: R20.059 CINEMA 4D Studio

actual behavior:

btw: rendered with corona version 3 everything is fine ;-)
Thanks,
Dominik

thank you for your input. Maybe it´ll be better to give it to the bug section.
Another strange behavior is that changing the bump from 1% to 100% its getting smoother. So I think somethings wrong :-)

that´s obviously the solution. Just wondered if it´s an behaviour someone wants to achieve. Feels like a bug.
Is there a documentation how stacking has changed?

If I change the order of the to materials with the bump-mat on top of the other one the bump size even changes. (??????)

haha, I understand you very well. Same problems here often. Let´s make it a little bit bigger just to cover every possible change. First time rendered I don´t care (over night), then I´m beginning to doubt when my photoshop file hits some GB. And then I have to render it again because of some changes and the deadline comes closer and closer and I desperate :-)

Just wondered how large that printing would be. nearly 90cm @300dpi - that´s really large. Normally you don`t need a resolution that high for any printing purpose. Even for printings like megalights. Normally printers demand a very high resolution in the medie specs. If you talk to them they´re normally satisfied with a much lower resolution. And remember that renderings in general can be interpolated with very good results.
just my 2 cents ;-)

I`m running Corona on a MacPro with 48GB Ram. No problems so far when rendering images up to 8000 pixels. Why do you need that huge dimensions?

Your scene starts on my Mac Pro nearly instantly in the picture viewer. Interactive render is preparing for about 8-10 secs.

Latest Corona version.

you`re getting a qick tip by hovering the mouse over the noise level in the vfb. If I`m not wrong it´s proposing 5% with activated denoiser and 2% without denoising.

difference only in color/contrast or is it really blurry? First thought was that you might have a wrong color management in Photoshop …

You can test the scene by rendering one frame to know how long you have to render it.
Or you set the noise limit. I read somewhere that good values are 2% without denoising or 5% with denoising. Just to get a feeling for it …

If you're not using a super complicated scene, I sometimes render a native C4D standard or physical pass with no lights or GI afterwards. The masks are super-sharp and the render only takes a couple of seconds.

Same here. Sometimes it´s faster and easier to do so instead of fixing masks in Photoshop. Maybe you can save time with render presets with the right settings so you don´t have to set them up manually every time.

No, you have to tell corona how long it should render the frame. Otherwise it won´t stop. You do that either through passes or through time limit. Or noise level. I normally render till noise level hits 2%. Or 4-5% + denoising.

I´m optimizing something like that with the "Select and Mask" Feature. Normally works fine.
