Not sure if that's it.
shared distance.c4d connects a shared distance shader in the material with the shader effector. Whatever I change in the node editor happens to this shader, too
shared distance2.c4d uses user data on ctrl, why I have to use connections to the node material and the shader effector material I have not found out yet.
It only works with instances in IR, not render instances and the refresh is broken.
