[Max] Feature Requests / Re: Denoising Cube Maps

Hi Avi,

Are there any updates on this issue? Would be great to be able to denoise cubemaps sooner rather than later

Thank you I will test that out for our next project.

Still getting denoising to work for cube maps would be the most efficient solution. I hope the Corona team can look into this.

That could work as a temporary fix. I've tried googling and couldn't find a software that does that especially for 32 bit images. Do you have any recomenndations?

The software we use to process the tours doesn't accept equirectangular images unfortunately. Regardless, Going that way would also increase the amount of pixels that need to be rendered by 33% which I'm not sure would be worth the tradeoff. Is there anyway this feature can be added to cubic panoramas?

Hello,

We render a lot of cube map walkthroughs at my office but we can't use the denoiser because it causes seams where the different sides of the cube meet. It would save us a lot of rendering time if we can just use the denoiser for the last bits of stubborn noise. Is this a feature that's possible to implement?

We have the same issue with the sharpening/blurring effect, but that's more of a nice to have where as the denoiser would really make a huge difference.

Thanks

[Max] I need help! / Re: Controlling Render Exposure

Hello,

I've tested doing a rendering with photographic exposure (not IR) and the non tone mapped values are still in the high 20s. This is different behavior from previous versions (Corona 7 I think?) Is there a way to get this back with messing with the GI? There's also a lot of interiors that are open and visible on these exterior views so I'd rather not make those unnecessarily darker.

Thanks,

Hi Maru,

Thanks for the response. I've tested photographic exposure with IR and it didn't pick it up as "initial exposure". Everything was rendering the same as with simple exposure. I will try with a full rendering and see if that changes.

Best,

Marwan

Hi Avi,

I have been using photographic exposure but it doesn't control the exposure the image is "rendered" at (the linear RGB) like it used to. Only the tone mapped values change. Is there a way to change the actual linear RGB value to bring it closer in range to the final tone mapped image?

Thanks,

Hello,

I'm trying to render at a target exposure. I used to be able to do that before the new tone mapping by using the photographic exposure for the camera. The reason is in my previous tests from years ago that used to significantly reduce render times (maybe that changed?) Is this something we're still able to do with the new tone mapping?

You can see in the attached image the original linear value is way too bright. We always correct that with tone mapping so it's not so much a question about how to get the right look but trying to improve performance.

Thank you.

Hi Rowan,

It's quite a simple scene (simple architecture, no displacement or furniture) and the machines have 64-128gb or RAM. I'm not sure if there's a problem with the scene itself though I'll have to investigate.

Thanks,

Marwan

Hello,

We've been this error pop up on some of the nodes on our farm. The render finishes fully then it crashes on save giving this error

corona exr image format - error creating image storage

Any ideas what's going on here?

Many thanks

Thank you that would be really helpful. I have pm'ed you the file link.

I noticed another error on one of the machines. The scene just gets stuck in "parsing" is this related? Is there a separate solution for this one?

Thanks

Hi Rowan,

Is there another way to address this? Like avoid Xrefs/displacement/whatever? I don't think it will be possible to install the daily build. Is this the only option?

Thanks

Hello,

I'm having an error when I try to render this scene on our render nodes. Basically they will finish rendering then give this attached error right before saving

The odd thing is the scene has been rendering normally on nodes with full workstation licenses. We are running Corona 7 hotfix1 on 3ds max 2022.3

I'm happy to upload the scene for debugging privately as this is a very sensitive project.

Thanks in Advance
