Are you using Windows 11? The Intel Alder Lake CPUs are known to have low performance issues on Windows 10 or older.
Can you explain what exactly you mean? I want to set up a new computer in the near future and favor WIN 10.
https://www.techspot.com/review/2358-intel-alder-lake-windows-11-benchmark/
Today you won't find a faster single clock speed than the 12900K, from my experience I'll give you my thoughts. Really fast processor which offers support for DDDR4 and 5. Also Pcie 5.0. The only drawback that I found is, it runs hot man.
And yes, Corona in 3DS Max can't handle all the cores. In C4D not an issue at all. I'm pretty happy with Win 11, coming from Mac OS I still think windows pretty bad but I'm learning to live with. Apple prices are hillarious, out of reach.

I would suggest:
- Lowering Performance > Max Sample Intensity as much as possible (you can use IR to preview its effect - at some point the image will become too dark)
- Lowering Performance > Max Ray Depth (same as above - at some point the image will become too dark/unrealistic)
- Increasing Performance > GIvsAA from the default 16 to 32, maybe even higher. This will make rendering "slower" meaning that one pass will render slower, but it will give you better quality of SSS effects in the end.

Hey there!
Those parameters seem not to offer too much in render times for this scene. I'm really happy with the volumetric effect, but render times are insane. How long will it take for a 6k image?
Is it normal to take all that long? Honestly, that's a very simple scene with very few objects compared to what Corona can handle like landscape scenes for instance.

I too am using the same "technique" as John_Do outlined above. You can use F1 through F4 keys (default hotkeys to switch to a certain viewport) on your keyboard to then quickly switch between your "camera" viewport and your "working in it" viewport :)

Using the F keys alternates the panels, not the camera projection. I've set mine to work like in 3DS Max. Specially for those who do not like the 4-view layout, the F keys shotcuts IMO don't work quite nicely. The only drawback I found was when you switch between camera projections, C4D doesn't keep the zoom level, then you have to keep reframing all the time.

hi, thanks for the info.
I'll play with the settings and get back to you. Working on a more complex material.

Cheers!

Yeah it seems not be some priority for most of people but we should be able at least to convert current state to object and then reapply scatter again.
Chaos scatter is such a great tool way lighter and faster than Cloner.

One Scatter for the jellies, so far working good. Now, how can I apply the suggar to all of them?
Also, do I have to have one Subdivision to each mesh inside the scatter? Because if I put them inside a null the Scatter will scatter the whole group which is not desirable.

hey that is what I'm looking for.
Is there already a way to randomize different materials to a group of objects?

Hey guys,
I did an experiment to practice Multi Shader using a very simple material, SSS and a little displacement. But I noticed a lot of slowness to render this image. Are there some parameters that we can adjust to drastically reduce this render time? My processor is not the worst, I'm using an i9 12900K and honestly a scene like this in 5K would take more than 5 hours letting it clean well. It doesn't make sense to me.
I stopped the render at 8% noise, the noise reduction is undoubtedly very effective, but I still think it takes a lot of time for an image like this.
I would appreciate any help on this.

@prince_jr

My advice to achieve this leather material would be to go with PBR having properly unwrapped UVs. You can find tons of PBR textures for free on the web.

I'm pretty frustrated with using bump in C4D, what should be easy is turning into hell. When we have UVs everything works perfectly, but in projection modes it is very problematic or should be simpler if I'm not setting it up properly.

Would be very nice to have a file to look into. Try to reproduce it with a simple object.

Yes I agree, I'm going to experiment with the normal shader, I didn't know I could connect procedural textures to it. These examples that I provided were something random and simple with the purpose of learnig the basic principles, now I'm going to try to create the material for real.
I really appreciate your help.

I think the issue is that your noise texture has too much contrast in it. Both, displacement and bump loves smooth transitions between high and low values, but the former can still produce usable, albeit sub-optimal results with super contrasty textures, while the latter can't do that. It's the nature of bump mapping.

As for the projection issue, i think it's your mapping at fault, not Corona. It looks that currently your object has simple planar mapping. Give the cookie proper UV unwrap and it should render just fine.

Hey thanks for you time. It seems to be none of them, sorry. The Delta parameter is responsible for the bump details, I didn't know about it. Credits to ficdogg.

For the projection issue, it doesn't make any sense to have UVs for procedural textures, as far as I know, that's the advantage of them. Material tags should be ignored when using texture projection in the space parameter. At least that's what the docs say. Also, the projection is working perfectly for the displacement. Some weird  behavior happens to the bump channel once we are using the same projection for both.

Cheers

Also, I've noticed some weird projection going on. Take a closer look.

Take a look at this example, why is this procedural texture rendering too smooth on the bump channel? That's not working as expected. If you connect it into the displacement channel, it is rendering properly.
We should  have a pretty close representation of this texture on both channels.
Is there some parameter I'm missing in order to make it work properly?
