[Max] I need help! / Forest Edge in Vantage doesn't seem to work.

Hi there,

Nowadays is hard to know where to post a question.
I use Corona in Max, with forest pack. When using vantage, forest edge doesn't seem to work, even when opacity is enabled as explained here:

Does it work?
Is it a Corona issue? A forest pack issue? or a vantage issue?

[Max] Bug Reporting / Corona 12 U1 - Stats different from VFB than saved CXR

When I render an image, the stats shown are different than when I save and retrieve the CXR.
Also, and this may have been the behaviour since forever, I don't know, but not all stats are saved. For example the noise % is missing in the CXR that I bring to the VFB.

Please, take a look at the video below. Looks like a bug.
It works with IR only if I switch to edge mode while on IR. But if I stop IR and start again it does not count the edge mode.
Please, let me know if I'm missing something.

[Max] Bug Reporting / Crash when turning Forest object on while IR

Hi Devs.

Please, download the file attached.
Open -> click on the IR window and turn the forest object ON.
In my PC it crashes every time.
Luckily it crashes only if I turn it on after I start IR. If I turn it on before, then there aren't crashes thereafter.

Windows 11, Corona 12 Update 1, 3DS Max 2025.1, Forest Pack Pro 9.0.8b

I just installed Corona 12 update 1. Please, let me know if this is a major bug so I revert to 11.

EDIT: I updated to Forest Pack Pro v9.1.5 and it still crashes.

With version 11 I've noticed that saving a file that contains a large number of proxies makes saving take a long time.
It happens with more than one file.

Is there anything I can do other than go back to Corona 10?

[Max] Bug Reporting / Normal Map error message wrongly shows up

Hi.

A minor bug it seems.

Scene attached.
Video below.

On scene open and until I plug something else into the material, I get the message "===== Warning(22) =====
A normal map appears to be using input image with incorrect gamma. This can cause shading artifacts.
Map with the problem: "Map #2138799162"

As you can see on the video, the message is not related to the normal map itself, and it goes away after plugging in the only slot that was not plugged in.

[Max] Feature Requests / CoronaDistance improvement - Use shape in Raycast mode

Hi,

I was looking for a way to use a spline to generate a mask. The spline would be the boundary for the shape and it would be projected onto the object I need a mask for.

Currently with CoronaDistance you'd need to use a volume AFAK, which can be messy and you'd need to set it to not-renderable and show as box if you don't want to have an annoying volume.
It would be interesting if there was a mode in CoronaDistance that allows to use a spline in projection mode without having to actually extrude the shape.

3DS Max's ShapeMap is slow to render with Corona.

[Max] I need help! / Confusion about albedo in color and textures - Keeping consistency

Hi all,

If a texture has white in it, then I need to darken the whole texture. Right?
But why should I darken the texture that has white in it, together with all the other colors in the texture, and not all other textures in the scene, that don't have such bright colors,  at the same rate?

Here Chaos suggests:

Each material component is calculated as LEVEL * COLOR (with 255 = albedo 1). So to decrease too high albedo of a white material, you can either:

leave diffuse color at RGB255 and lower diffuse level to about 0,7
or

leave diffuse level at 1 and change color to about RGB180

It doesn't specify between just single colors and textures with millions of colors.

Why doesn't the corona material have the level value at 0.7 by default?
Would that be a good strategy to keep realism in ALL materials with and without diffuse textures?

Here CGTricks is sharing a script to automatically control this, but I 'm not sure if I should blindly trust in it. So I wanted to ask the Corona team about all this, including whether the script is a vialble solution for homogeneous Albedo control.

[Max] Bug Reporting / Noise on bump NaN error window on viewport IR

Hi all.
I get a NaN error window.
Just open the scene, and start IR (the viewport IR).
If you don't get the error try opening the material editor or moving the perspective view.
I'm not getting the error on the VFB IR.
