love cosmos,
BUT: as the new physical mat has always a white reflection and no way to dimm it, many cosmos objects have way too reflective materials.
they come in with ior 1.6 or even 2 for many trees p.e.

- so please either bring back a way to reduce reflection manually,
- OR psl add a way that the cosmos libraries translate better with the new corona material, meaning very low ior values:)

HI

for some reason here, when i use chaos scatter in my scene, in IR every camera move initiated a full scene parsing.
i guess/ hope this is a bug.

can you check that, as the scene and scatter not changes in relation to camera i think it should not need a new parsing of the scene, that makes IR not interactive any more. As soon i hide the scatter objects, IR is interactive gain without re- parsing the scene.

Or do i oversee something?

Dear Corona team,

first a BIG thank you for the very nice v8 version! :)

i have one big feature wish though which might be very easy to add:
when i copy paste a c4d material from one c4d scene to another, c4d asks me if i want o copy the assigned bitmaps into the new scenes "tex" folder.
this is VERY useful when working with assets, or copying parts from one scene to a new one.

sadly with the corona materials this feature isnt activated. as far i remember it is a simple line of code to add to the material, so that c4d activates this feature from the hostapp.
(maxon sdk supports for sure can tell that)

if any possible please add this small but very helpful feature to one of the service packs, people will love you for that ;)

i found a Bug with the new tone mapping and connecition to cameras.

here and there when using IPR and switching between default cam and saved scene cameras, the tone mapping in the saved scene camera gets lost.

so the default obviously has a default tone mapping, my scene cameras special tone mapping used. when i switch to default cam and back to scene cam, the scene cam here and there has also only the default settings.

i hope it is understandable what i mean?

i had this happen in several scenes, but it only happens here and there, not regularly.

before i really use the new v8 with all machines in productions, some clarification on the new lic server use would be fine:

1) i am worried what happens if internet has an temporal outage;
how long can the office be without internet before corona will stop working (in case of internet issues), V-ray had been very strict  in that regard in past, hope that is improved with new chaos license server versions, like it needs only every 12h or 24h  a connection to the  internet or the like, before it all stops working.

2) or do i need to use the "borrow lic system from chaos to ensure 1)? i hope not, so that the regular system allows some downtime of the internet in default setup?

Dear Corona team,

overall the RC4 runs pretty smooth, i really love now the new tone mapping pipeline, thanks for that:)

2 smaller things happened in rc today, maybe some others had that too, so i report it to make sure:

1) i had a case where i made a new camera (so it a copy of the previous active one) and moved it, then i wanted to switch back to another and then back to the original camera, and it lost parts (newly added before to that cam) of the tone mapping settings. i had added an aces, and tone curve i think, which had been suddenly missing, and it also had then a false exposure.
i am not sure what happened but i had to go back to previous saved version to get the exact tone mapping back

2) the corona vfb vanished once for me, the only way to get it back was to restart c4d r 25.

so far both happened only once, and i wasn't able to reproduce yet.

as title says, is this possible?

first congrats on  the new tone mapping, i test yet to try to get the same output as before.

one thing i see that isnt right when i open my old scenes, is that the curve setting is ignored and not added to the new tone mapping system.
we heavily use custom curves in our process and need those also in new v8 beta when opening our scenes

i hope it is easy to fix that/adding the old curve paramater to the new system.

i hope this is the major source for the different look so far, will continue to test:)

edit: on more tries this time it did also "forget" the lut setting", so seems randomly it yet misses some settings in new file when opening old scenes with more than one camera and different settings per camera

Hi,

before testing the new beta 8 with chaos lic, i need to make sure all works, and to understand the process of the license system:

i have  several vray lic under a chaos account that exists since long.
and i have corona licenses under a corona acount.

how can i use all on one chaos lic server, or do i need to run 2 different chaos servers with 2 login accounts?

i need both engines active at the same time on my machines

[C4D] Bug Reporting / R25 scene crash

Hi

i have a bigger scene which crashes on one machine in r25, but not in r23 with same corona ( both latest beta 8 from feb 2 2022)
a slightly older version renders fine(before i added some assets)
it also renders ok on corona 6 and r23 on same machine

it also doesn't crash on my other machine with same corona 8 beta  r25,

all pcs have the same OS, same ram and same extentions (corona and same vray verison installed)
no bitmaps are missing


i tried with de-installing vray on that machine(in case there was some leftover ion the assets)
when i open the scene then it doesnt find a vray shader (so there seems some hidden mat or shader, but this should not crash and doesnt crash on the other machine)

i disables "render 3rd party materials" in render settings
ram is plenty (59% usage only in total)

can i send you the bug report to check that that is, i am out of ideas?

Dear Corona team,

LOVE the new Cosmos addition in the v8 daily - thanks for that!

a few questions i have:

- i cannot see correct material previews, the textures not show in the previews of the material sphere, they render correct though then in ipr and final render, so i have some wrong there or is this yet an known issue?

- atm it uses the web browser, this seem to conflict with the use in a dropbox folder, probably due the web browser use? (in vray with integrated cosmos browser it works) i can only import downloaded files when i pause the dropbox. i guess cosmos will also get an integrated cosmos window, right?

- some materials are very reflective or shiny in comparence to the cosmos originals. the same in vray seem yet at least to me a bit more realistic (like wood floors p.e), i compared for example this "Wood_Tiles_Shiny_04_200cm". do we need to lower the IOR ?

do you also hate it to search through endless long lists of materials in the C4D material manager?

for exact that we created a new simple yet power4ful helper tool, the material filter plugin, you can find it here in our shop 3dtools.info:

it simplifies the task greatly
you can filter by name or pats of the name,  it updates the search results in real time while you type.
you can dock it anyway in your GUI

hope some of you like it and find it useful:)

dear all,

sorry for my maybe obvious question, but the more i work with the new physical materials,
the more i start to lack a direct control on the reflection intensity (other than lowering or raising the ior). 
mostly to lower the reflections a bit as i see in in real world products i need to recreate.

to all my understanding the IOR is MAINLY defining the falloff/fresnel curve of an material, not only the intensity of the reflection, so metals have a very different fall off curve than water which again is different to glass and so on ( as easy seen on https://refractiveindex.info/ ).

but atm i see no other way to tune the reflection intensity in the physical material, other than changing (raising or lowering ) the IOR value.
- do i oversee something important?
- is this really physical correct?
- aren't there materials in reality who have a certain fall of curve , like glass, but different reflection intensities? (lower than pure ior value would indicate p.e.)
- would it maybe be needed, to have an intensity slider i % or a value (ideally with texture slot) for the reflection, at least to lower it at least for artistic reasons i think this is important.

as example: seeing at real world glass products i think also reflection can very different for different products, and i assume they all have an ior of 1.5-1.6, not much lower.
so i feel a physical material still needs some way to set the reflection intensity independent from the fall off curve (ior)

what does the corona team or other users think on that?

maybe a "level" setting like in Volume tab,
or amount with a texture slot, like in refraction tab of the new physical mat would do it?

one thing i wondered since some time, why does the ipr start the rendering new when i only tune the tone mapping in the vfb settings? like burn, contrast, white balance etc?

to my logic these are more post effects that, at least for ipr not need to initiate a new render?

in special in bigger scenes this is annoying as one has always to wait a bit for each small tone mapping change until the image is re rendered in ipr.
would it be possible to change this behaviour so render would continue at the pass where it was, even though one changes some tone mapping settings?
