Title: Physical material / corona color correct text map / real world scale
Post by: asdecret on 2023-05-11, 10:15:46
Hello everyone,

I hope you are well.
I am having an issue I can't get my head around.
I recently updated to 8.2 and using max 2018.

Somehow when i use and corona physical material from the library, (in this case Concrete Bare Cast Murral) it has a real world map of 6x6 meters.
Here is the thing:

When I apply this material to a 6x6 box it is not scaled properly: the box parameters of creating world map si checked, real world also and a uvw map modidier with real world is used.
So there you should be an issue I guess unless i  am missing something.
The scale of the bitmap is off!!

This material has a corona color correct text map in the base color slot ( the concrete bitmap is plugged into it).
If i bypass this color correct textmap the scale is perfect.

On another note if I create a corona legacy material and plugin the color correct textmap the scale is fine.
Also if I convert the corona physical to a legacy material everything is fine.

Therefore I must think this is an issue with the corona physical material.

If any of you could help me it would be higly appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

Are you just viewing the material in the 3ds max viewport? (And not in the render frame?)

I'm guessing so, as generally the preview of material textures usually disappears when going through a color correct node. So if you render this, it should look fine.

I have the same question: is this only about viewport preview or also the actual render?

Also: please update to Corona 9 HF2 (https://corona-renderer.com/download) and see if the issue is still there. We also have some related fixed in the upcoming V10.

Hello Maru and Nicholas,

Sorry for my late reply but was away from the office and could not troubleshoot.
Well Nicholas your were correct the scale of the bitmap is correct in the frame buffer, thanks again.
Maru the scale is not only wrong in the viewport, but also in the corona correct text map.

Do both of you have any idea if there is a fix?

thanks again for you help.

To the best of my knowledge, what you're seeing is what's expected.

You can hopefully turn on the viewport material preview in Slate material editor by clicking on the original bitmap node and pressing the "Show Shaded Material in Viewport" button.

AFAIK this is 3ds Max issue. It happens with other renderers too.

Yep, agreed. It seems there was some minor improvement recently, the color changed as expected with ColorCorrection node visible in viewport, but it was still a solid color rather than the expected texture.

Thanks a lot, in the attachment it was alreaday turned on.

Thanks

Alex

I think sometimes if you turn it off then on again, it triggers it to show in the viewport as expected...

Hi @asdecret,

This is fixed in the latest Corona 10 DB. Please try it and let me know if the problem persists.

You can get the latest Corona 10 DB from here: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=38385.0
