I think what you need is a better working contrast feature. I have pointed out numerous times that Contrast feature needs a lot more improvement, because at the moment it burns black areas instead of introducing contrast to image ;)

Let's hope Ondra will find some time for it ;)

Yes the contrast as you said produce some strange behavior , usually i bring down the gamma i bring up the multiply of the light intensity and than i cut the Highlight, easy quick, job done!
