Hey LuckyFox, love your work I have been following this thread for awhile. I do a bit of photogrammetry myself and always have troubles with shadows in the albedo. Can you share some tips about your lighting setup and how you get around this particular issue?

I have the 360 degree capture working with the 'in the void' technique, but I want to capture the material specular/height detail for my next models and also have a clean albedo. My first thoughts for the material capture is take a photo with the lights unpolarised, then one with them cross polarised for the specular capture, is this similar to your process for capturing the specular pass? Cross polarised for the albedo texture. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi James! My setup is a ring lightR300 with a linear polarizer foil attached directly on it with tape. Behind the ring light is my Nikon D850 with a Hoya circular polarization filter attached to the lens(60macro or 105macro). My glossiness maps are converted from albedo/diffuse with eyeballing of "what looks believable" for my subject. Because the ring light is in front of the camera I get flat photos without or almost without shadows. Regarding your idea for capturing the gloss/spec by difference of polarized and unpolarized capture, I never tried it even though I know about such technique. I think it's making the process longer for a small gain. My scans all have guesstimated gloss map and most of them work fine I think, though a perfect real captured gloss would raise the level even higher of course. Good luck!

Thanks for that, thats excellent information about the camera/lighting setup to go from I really appreciate it! I might be back in a few months with some new questions or hopefully something to share :)

Ive also been extracting the spec/normal details from the diffuse however I think you have done an excellent job adjusting this by eye, very good job!

I was hoping to combine photogrammetry with material capture using the technique I seen by this creative group of artists.

Thanks again
