[Max] Resolved Bugs / DR - Something is wrong
« on: 2016-05-09, 11:57:26 »
Hi guys, sorry for getting back with this issue but I don't understand something here... As you can see from my screenshots the DR servers seem to not processing the passes correctly. Now, I don't know if this is our network problem or Corona's one.

Here is the scenario:

- Image sent via Backburner to DR Master PC, in total are used 3 PCs (1 DR Master + DR Slaves)
- The renders starts successfully and all the machines start calculating the initial pass.
- After a while the main passes started to be calculated on the DR Master but the DR Slaves are always stopped at the initial pass. (see image: DR_Slave.jpg)
- In the VFB of the DR Master I see no passes loaded from the DR Servers, after about an hour of processing. (see image: DR_Master.jpg)
- Opening the Backburner Server app I see errors (see image; Backburner_Errors.jpg)

This is what I was talking about some days ago, at this point, how do we know what the DR Servers exactly do? Are they calculating or not? I think not!

Let me know what do you think...

Thanks,

Dionysios -

I received an update yesterday for the Occulus app and now the system creates the thumbnails once you open the photos in Gear VR. Cool!!!

Hi jetcrow, I simply use the Oculus 360 Photos application which you can download from the Oculus store for free. I use a S7 Edge phone for this.

Hi Ondra, I made as promised some tests today and I used the last RC4 version. Everything seems fine.

Same image in hi res calculated for 1 hour with and without DR.

With DR: 13 Passes
Without DR: 7 Passes

The results are correct, with DR image is cleaner as expected!

Don't see any strange issues for now, probably is the RC4? Something you guys fixed?

Thanks,

It's a very simple workflow:

- Just put your camera in your scene and pay attention to your horizon line, just don't look up or down when you're going to create your 360° image. Keep the target as straight as possible.
- Apply on the camera a CoronaCameraMod modifier. Turn on in Projection type menu the Override command, and go down and turn on the Spherical VR mod (click on Enable). I don't touch the other parameters there for now.
- Your output resolution should be always a square one so do your tests in lower first, let's say 200x2000 and once sure with everything go for a final 4096x4096 or even better 8192x8192 and save your image as JPG or TIFF. I personally save in OpenEXR as I do the tone mapping in post + some color grading. At the end I save my image at a JPG format.
- Move your saved image in your phone and in the Oculus folder: 360Photos. If you don't see any (probably yes) create this folder and save your images inside.
- Turn on your GEAR VR system and use the Oculus 360 Photo application, in the general menu select your personal photos button and that's it.

I read somewhere that in case you want some thumbnails during the menu navigation you should save a copy of your 360 image in low res and PNG format and save it in the same folder with the same name...

That's all for now! :)

I answer at two questions/issues read above: (I have the Gear VR since last weekend so I am learning too...)

1. Use Cardboard apps in Gear VR

Just download the "Play Cardboard apps" from the google store and will do all the job. Is a simple app which basically turns off the Oculus SW when the phone gets into the viewer every time. Very neat and simple and it works! :)

2. As for the thumbnails, I read that you have to load a small PNG thumbnail in the same 360PHOTOS folder where the high res image is saved and use the same name... Didn't tried it yet.

My two cents!

Yeah, I remember the client wanted to show all the composition during that shot and was a bit tricky... Anyway...

I do tone mapping in post and then color grade with Lightroom.

Hi all, this is my very first post in the Corona gallery. As many things happened the last 6 months, I had no time to post some images I created while I was working and representing Delta Tracing in the past. Since September 2015 I moved from Nvidia iray to Corona and these images are my first attempt which I produced a month later, October 2015. I have others too which I will post in the near future.

Final resolution was 5.500px and the rendering time was about 3 hours with 3 hexacore PCs used via DR.

Thanks,

Dionysios -

Hi Lasse, the Marthashof project was a great experience and I'll never forget it. You're right, the world is so small... :)

Thanks a lot for your kinds words!
