Did you try to merge half of the objects and see if the problem remains? If no it means the culprit is the other half of objects.
Repeat the process in the other half and do so until you isolate the problematic object.

I had very similar issue few years ago with 3ds Max taking excessively long to save the files. I think i was on Max 2016 at that time. I couldn't find solution on my own, but someone from Corona forum users told me how to fix it. Unfortunately i can't remember what it was, nor the name of my saviour (i suspect it could be either Frood, or pokoy). Hopefully they will see this topic and will share their insight with you.

Is it the actual saving that takes ages or is Max just busy with something else after the saving?
I'm asking because one thing I'm seeing is that whenever a viewport uses High Quality mode, Max (2021 in my case) will re-evaluate all shaders in the scene. After saving, Max redraws all viewports for some reason and that triggers the shaders to rebuild all caches. So if HQ mode is on and you are using displaying many shaders and have many maps in your shader trees, Max will save the file quickly but will be busy after saving.
To test whether this is the case, switch all viewports to Standard mode before saving and see if that helps.

Thx to all!
I tried all your suggestions, in the end nothing worked.
I got back to the file and found the objects causing the slowdown
I got a facade made in railclone that was exploded (Not more than 1000 objects) there were just slats, no more than 6 faces each with a uv map applied, i just collapsed all that geo into 1 object and it was solved....
3dsmax never cease to amaze me in the worst way possible...
