Hi all,

I've got an animation to render, I give each frame approx 30 seconds and then apply the Intel denoiser (0.8), but there seems to be a strange issue where the denoised areas flicker but in a blurred way. Any ideas? I've uploaded the video here:

https://we.tl/t-Rb5p9gjeg6

Settings wise (Some tips taken from various other threads):

Flicker free animation
Tent filter
Intel Denoiser (0.8)
Max Sample: 10
Max ray depth: 15
Sharpen / Blur: On
1080p render size.

I use calc new UHD per frame because of the moving door. Everything else default.

Appreciate any help thanks!

Hardware / AMD and Intel on same renderfarm?
« on: 2020-02-21, 12:29:37 »
Hi,

I have a workstation with an Intel CPU and am looking at getting a new one with AMD, can anyone advise if there's any potential issue say for example if they both rendered frames of the same animation? Could they come out noticeably different?

Thanks.

Hardware / Upgrading but worth it?
« on: 2020-02-19, 14:02:11 »
Hi all,

Looking at getting a new PC built for our office, have had this one for a while now but it's still decent. I get 55 seconds on the Corona benchmark, if that's a good way of measuring?

While shopping around I was hoping to see a significant reduction on the benchmark times but all of the CPUs I see don't really get that time down much to be worth it.

I saw a benchmark of threadripper x 4 (When it says x4 in the benchmark results I assume that means there are 4 CPU's on the motherboard, or am I being dense?), a set up that would cost at least 4 times the price of my single i9-7960x. I'm not sure it's worth it at all, unless I'm missing something?

Also, I'm thinking I may use scan.co.uk to build but if anyone has any better recommendations i'd be really thankful.

Hi all,

I'm rendering carpets with different colours (lots of colours), I want to save out a JPG with each carpet colour, using viewport selection rendering to keep the background the same but just change the carpet. However when doing this there are pixels around the edges that retain the colour of the previous carpet.

There is no displacement at all and I have tried turning image filtering off and denoising off, rendering at 3k px wide.. But the same effect occurs especially from a distance, any one had something similar?

Thanks!

[Max] I need help! / CoronaSelect material slot
« on: 2019-07-03, 08:27:53 »
Hi all,

I have a project with a number of colours for a fabric, the new CoronaSelect is perfect for it but only allows up to 24 slots per material, with apparently more able to be unlocked through maxscript???

Not quite sure what that means or how to do it? I need around 120 slots per material really.

Can anyone help :)

[Max] I need help! / Colourising carpets
« on: 2019-03-18, 09:26:48 »
Hi all,

I'm starting a project that has quite a few carpet colours so I plan to render a grey carpet out and then use photoshop to tint the carpet colours. The only thing is when I tint the carpet in Photoshop it will change the colour of the lighting and also the shadows. I have used render passes in the past with vray to only affect the diffuse later, but i'm struggling to do the same thing in corona, I have followed the youtube tutorial but it does not seem to have a diffuse pass in the CSEsential elements?

Any advice you can give would be amazing, thanks!

[Max] I need help! / Masking issues in Photoshop
« on: 2017-03-23, 11:31:58 »
Hi all,

Does anyone else use cmasking_wirecolor and cmasking_ID passes to create quick selection masks in photoshop when working on the post in your images? I've been having this problem where I use 'Color Range' in PS to select an area then another area then make my adjustments but it leaves a horrible line around everything. I'm a long term vray user and don't remember experiencing it quite this badly with material ID's etc.

I did turn off the image filter and that helped but still getting this very dark line. Maybe it's something in photoshop?

Any help would be really appreciated.
