I've just stumbled upon this weird "bug", I don't know how I didn't notice it sooner.

The 3d model of the wall is from Quixel, no displacement, just a normal map.

IR - Instance : correct result


IR - Render Instance : weird shading


Prod - Render Instance : weird shading, like a blend between both results.

Scattering anything other than splines works though.

To be exact, doesn't work with the following setup :

Corona Bitmap + Colorizer + UVW projection

Corona Bitmap + Colorizer works with any other projection method.
C4D Bitmap + Colorizer works with any projection.

Hello,

I think it's a long standing issue which still is present in the latest version. It only affect the bump channel.

It happens if the object has no UVW Tag or if the mesh components aren't properly unwrapped / have no UV coordinates. Projector shader doesn't work too.
The workaround is to unwrap properly the mesh or to choose another projection.

Hello,

The IR buttons of the new VFB are still buggy in the latest version, example during an IR session :
EDIT : it's the IR pass limit setting that changes the button state, so not a bug, but maybe not the expected behavior for users ?!

Hi,

Not a big deal but I noticed that in some cases the shared shaders are seen by C4D and prevents the Attribute Manager to display properties with shaders of the same type :



Here I was trying to modify a setting on multiple Normal Map shaders at once, only to fail because of the shared shader.

Hi,

Could you ditch the decimals on the white balance value in the VFB ? It's not really useful in this context and more importantly the value is truncated because of the excessive number of figures. And the width of the tool panel can't be modified.

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Clamped viewport when using OCIO

Hi,

I'm experimenting with OCIO in C4D and the VFB(2) doesn't show the correct result, like it's clamped.
To be clear it is clamped since I'm using the default view transform of C4D, but in a weird way, like a veil on top of the image that makes it dimmer :



EDIT : Even with the Raw view transform the image is clamped :


BTW the VFB doesn't show the view transform but I guess it's expected since it's managed by Cinema ?

Also I noticed that the raw values picked in the VFB are always clamped to 1,47, is there a particular reason for this ?

Hi,

I've just upgraded to C4D 2025.1.3 from 2024.5 and use Corona 12.1H1, but I have something like a gamma issue when rendering in the viewport compared to the VFB :



I'm not using OCIO and have reset the render settings. The problem doesn't occur with Viewport IR.
Scene is attached.

Hi,

I'm trying to get accustomed to the new VFB but noticed another downgrade from the previous version : it doesn't support the Tab key to change the active item in the tonemapping stack. Could you fix it ?

Hi,

I've always felt that the Max version is a bit snappier than the C4D one, but it's something that is a bit hard to show.
I've just noticed that it's clearly visible in the stats panel with the VFB refresh time value, on a simple lookdev scene Max is almost 4 times faster than C4D, consistently :

Max


C4D refresh times are between 22 and 30 ms, Max's between 2 (!) and 8ms.

Why is that?  And is it something the devs can adress ?

I noticed some significant lags during IR sessions with the VFB2, and not with the old one. It's annoying, am I the only one ?

Hi,

Another weird bug with the Corona Bitmap shader and the Triplanar shader. Native Bitmap gives the expected result regardless of the setup, but Corona Bitmap seems to rely on UVs if the object has a UVW tag, thus delivering weird result.
