Hi all,
I have been having this issue for a while now.
I have a big scene to be rendered 8k x8k for a stereoscopic vr image. I have many Forest Packs and I have decided to double my memory ( I have now 256GB of Ram).
Now I can render the scene and through the night Corona managed to get the image to a good 2% noise (more than enough). Then I clicked stop (no denoise active) and Max crashes out with no notice.
I thought I could rely on the autosave, to my surprise, Corona managed to save only 0kb cxr.....so, no chances to get the image done.
This has been happening many times, I have tried with different secondary solvers, the problems seems related to Corona buy I might be wrong.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Happens to me too like twice a month on different projects. Not consistent enough to make any kind of observations on the issue. Got a habit to save before stopping.

I think I have narrowed down the issue. I have tried different sizes....4k fine, 6k fine, 8k Corona crashes.
Is it possible Corona has issue with big cxr files? I have 256 GB of Ram....I wouldn't expect such a limitation on the render engine.

ANyone?

How much RAM is Corona using? How many render elements are in the CXR? What is the file size of the CXR likely to be (you could check the 6K version and report its file size if the 8K never saves - you could try just 2 passes with the 8K see if it saves then and its only on longer renders it has a problem, or whether that happens on file save regardless). What happens if you do not save via Max dialog, just render to the VFB and manually Save CXR? Does it happen if the image is not stereoscopic? And as always with crashes, which version of Corona and which version of Max?

How much RAM is Corona using? During a 8k stereoscopic image, doesn't go above 170 GB
How many render elements are in the CXR? It crashes with 27 and with 2, same, no difference.
What is the file size of the CXR? The 6K is about 8gb with 27 render elements, the 8k version crashes (and doesn't save any autosave) even after 2 passes.
What happens if you do not save via Max dialog, just render to the VFB and manually Save CXR? I don't use the save in 3dsmax, I always use the save cxr from the vbf. It crashes as soon as I press stop (when the cleaning-up starts).
Does it happen if the image is not stereoscopic? Yes.
And as always with crashes, which version of Corona and which version of Max? Max 2022 with Corona 8 daily build Feb 02 2022), but it's happening with the official version 7.

After many many test, I really think it's a Corona or Max limitation on handling big files. I even tried to disable all the Forest Packs, same crashes with no message.

Hope this helps.

This is a very annoying issue.

Thanks

I have managed to get a 8k render with no crashes by deleting each single render element. So, I guess, the issue is related to the file size.
