I'm also using Mac if you want to post your scene. I guess it's pretty simple so maybe I can recreate it.

[C4D] General Discussion / Complex Material Help
« on: 2023-12-05, 18:12:24 »
Okay, so I have a client that sells all sorts of Italian food. They came up with these little delicious-looking dough nuggets with frosting and cinnamon. Being people that think things can be created with a snap of the finger, they want to launch this product and this is the only photo they took and sent to us. This image was smoothed out with Photoshop and edited a bit, but it's not good. Bad lighting, depth of field is wrong and lots of noise.

I can make all of this in C4D and Corona, except for the sugary frosting effect. I'm preparing to tell them I can't do it easily if at all, but wanted to toss it out here. Also if you have seen a material for sale that might look close, I'm open to that too. Thanks.

What we don't know is your Sky and Sun intensities. Your camera setting are fine unless the light is really bright. I am familiar with photography so I usually go with that workflow, plus it makes it easier to get the depth-of-field that way I want.

Seems like you need to hit the tutorials and learn the basics of Cinema 4D.

Personally, I just never have seen the real advantage of dropping C4D files into AE before I started with Corona. It's just cumbersome, slower and some features aren't supported. Easier to just jumping to C4D and exporting. In my opinion.

51
If you are making your planks as meshes and maybe using Mograph cloning, you could also add the random rotation of the planks.

52
You cannot export any 3D objects with Corona material to After Effects. You can only export videos or objects with an alpha channel. Not 100% what you're asking for.

For many years, the number of cores on the CPUs of the same speed would indeed scale that way. 8-core was twice as fast as a 4-core system. At least with C4Ds native engines. Not sure anymore with the new render engines and the new ARM chips. I miss the days when the new chips would make a big difference in speed.

Like the new iPhone. All i see them pushing is "now with Titanium!" which will look great all covered up by my Otterbox. Not sure it's a better phone than the 14, but it's got Titanium!

[C4D] I need help! / Re: Elements disappearing

Rendering with higher resolution would not solve your problem. If your final display size is 1920x1080 for example, rendering it at 4k will take a lot longer, but since your final display size is 1920x1080, all those extra pixels are lost when it is scaled or sampled back down the needed size. Make sense?

If you can't change the main lighting, then as noted above, randomize the material and add a tiny bit of reflection. In real life, there are many times you cannot see certain details based on the angle. Photographers cheat all the time by adding a subtle light just to catch certain edges or add reflections. So you're not changing your lighting, just adding a cheat code.

Also, make sure your edges are not perfectly sharp. Can't quite tell from the renders, but they look like they need a little rounding or beveling. That will also help catch light.

I have never heard that Corona is supported in AE via Cineware. Maybe I missed something.

[C4D] Daily Builds / Corona Bitmap Fixed?

"Fixed problem with Corona Bitmap and Corona Proxy not correctly loading paths from C4D Asset browser"

Just curious if this fix in the latest daily finally fixes the issue with broken paths when collecting scenes? I will try it out later.

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Re: Corona 10 Very Slow
« on: 2023-11-02, 21:02:37 »
Interesting, but there are so many threads about the problems the Corona Bitmap shader is causing. Curious if other problems crop up even with the faster render time?

58
Since you have a Displacement map, why not use actual displacement instead of putting it the Bump channel? Maybe both.

59
The other huge issue with Corona Bitmaps is when you try and collect your scene with assets, those texture links will break. You will need to manually reconnect them. Some have had Team Render issues that point to the Corona Bitmap shader.

Motion blur has been an issue with Corona since day one, at least certain types of motion blur. Surprised to still see these reports after all these years.
