Hi all - I'm realizing when I use refraction override the backplate does not look correct through two pieces of glass. It looks like it's as bright as it would be through one - see attached image with indicated area... is this a max depth issue?

« on: 2022-01-19, 00:25:22 »
Hi all - just picked up a Theta Z1 and wanted to share some info about it. I used it to really quickly create an HDRI and am very pleased with the functionality. The quality is nowhere near what I get when using a DSLR with a gimbal but the speed and ease of use really makes it worth it to me. As of right now, there's no ND filters or any other way to stop it down enough for use in direct sunlight, but for magic hour or lower light environments it's really great. I put together a quick render using an HDRI I made in a few minutes as an environment, and added some corona lights as strobes. Just wanted to put it out there!

Yea, I'm looking at the two and I agree that the illuminated background is better. I like it so far, but still not there - it's like 90% of what I'd hope it can be. Also, corona lights are definitely very uniform in reflections unless the directionality is turned up high, which would not be good for the softbox plane in this case.

thank you! I used a gradient ramp in a corona light material on a plane, and then just corona disc lights

ok one more go at this - after playing around a bunch I'm mostly happy with this. Tire material still needs work, but lighting is better I think.

Update - changed the lighting and focal length, still making updates to the materials. I think this is an improvement over the first image but still have a ways to go, looking for further feedback... thank you!

solid feedback, thank you - I will give it another go keeping this in mind. In regards to the lighting, is it the lack of light on the ground by the rear that's the culprit, or rather lack of overall light contrast back there?

Ok thank you all for the feedback. I have started using GarageFarm and it is very good. I'm pleased so far. Between GarageFarm, RebusFarm, and local machines, my workflow seems to be better now.

Hi all,

here's a recent render of mine, while I'm not sure if it's my best work I think it's a good indicator of where my skills are. I know (from looking through the forum gallery) there's much room left to improve technically and creatively but my ability to self critique is only so good right now. Any tips and advice are appreciated, thanks

Edit:
I think this belongs in the learner's corner so if it can be moved that would be great

[Max] General Discussion / Looking for a good Render Farm
« on: 2021-08-25, 18:20:41 »
Looking for suggestions from people with direct experience with render farms. Currently I use RebusFarm and although the integration is very nice, the reliability is abysmal to say the least. I know CoronaRender provides a list of renderfarms but I'm looking for a first hand recommendation to avoid testing each one individually. Thanks in advance.

Had to "cheat" with the shadow - made an invisible box where the pillar was and removed the shadow of the pillar in the backplate, so the car and pillar shadow are made in corona on a shadow catcher plane
