[Max] I need help! / Strong Shadow Catcher Flicker
« on: 2021-04-21, 11:45:25 »
Hi there,

I do a lot of rendering using the shadow catcher material, usually without issue. Recently though I've had a few scenes where the shadows have a very strong flicker that doesn't go away with more samples/UHD presision set to 4/changing the denoiser....etc

The only thing I've found that is a clear trigger for it is having any ornatrix hair objects in the scene?

Has anyone got any ideas why this would be or a workaround?

I have attached my render setting and a short clip (blacked out for IP reasons) with the shadow pass mulitiplied to more clearly show whats happening.

Thanks,
Sam

[Max] I need help! / Weird Camera Focus Behaviour
« on: 2020-10-08, 14:37:21 »
Hi there,

I'm having an issue with the 3ds Max Physical camera focusing.

If the focus is set to target distance and positioned on the object, the render will be perfectly in focus both in the IR and in a final single frame.

However, if I animate the camera moving while maintaining focus on an object, any given still frame will render in focus, but when set to render a frame range, the focus will drift until completely out of focus by the end of the frames. I hope that makes sense?

I seem to have this issue on every new file for the last few weeks but only recently began rendering animations out.
I have recreated the issue in a new file that I will attach along with demonstration frames.

I am using Corona renderer 6 hotfix 1 on 3ds Max 2021. (I had this same issue before hotfix 1).
PC specs: AMD threadripper 3960x, 64gb ram, 1050ti.

I can provide any more info as needed. Pretty sure I have probably checked something that shouldn't be and I am completely missing it!

Thanks,
Sam
