ehm... the scenes are quite different. The smaller the windows are, the better using lights/portals in them becomes.

Anyways, portals will be implemented eventually, as an optional way to speed up rendering of interiors with small windows

Oh, by the way...  per-material environment override is planned ;) That means materials can have different environment maps for reflections/refractions/illumination, etc... ;) Actually you could see that feature very soon ;)

about the other fakes: Arnold is unbiased pathtracer. You can't do much else, if you rely heavily on fakes. I can do most of them in Corona, but dont expect for example bidirectional path tracing to work with them.

Its not alpha 3, right? Can you right-click them to see, if there is actually some super-bright color, or INF/NAN/IND?

Found a link to this forum on max3d.pl - one of the biggest Polish cg forums.

I study computer graphics at a private school so I can use Corona on a legal, student version of 3ds max 2012 x64, which is awesome. It's also insane that Corona is free but please don't turn it into a commercial application like Crazybump did.
I'm planning to go commercial when its good enough, but there will always surely be some free builds (for example for students). Also, most active alpha/beta testers will have corona always for free.

lets try some woodoo debugging ;)
- download the build agan (to make sure it is not corrupted dowload)
- reinstall http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13523
- make sure you are running the right 3dsmax (it should say x64 in the window header)
- try running it with admin rights

Yes, but you could totally kill it by enclosing it in a glass plane. I am currently finishing the bidirectional path tracing, that would work even in that case ;)

I did not except light tracer to be functional enough to actually produce any usable result :)

I've fixed it lately. It still does not support many fakes and direct visualization of glossy surfaces
