[Max] I need help! / Re: Refraction for vegetable
« on: 2015-04-03, 09:01:02 »
I'm not sure this is "the " way to do it, but with plants I usually copy the diffuse map to the translucency map set it at about 0.2 -0.35 depending on the map.
Sometimes I'l ad a light green color to reflection.

I don't do a lot of close ups, hardly any clients asks me to make an image of a chair leg or something, and over distance it looks fine.
Again this is just me tho, not claiming its the correct way to go about it.

Honestly call me a fool, but at times I feel portals produce more noise/increase render times. I am to lazy to actually spend the time and test it but something is certainly feels that way.

Okay i'l give some honest critique so you can learn and improve.

1) the champagne and ice look out of place
2) Lose the bike, it doesn't fit the setting,
3) Your carpet could use some displacement, noise and a better texture map; the carpet isn't giving of any feeling.
4) Pillows could use some translucency.
5) your plints ( not sure how to call them in English, the white wooden things at the bottom of your walls ) have something really weird going on. It looks like they are deeper then your wall.
6) Use a more dynamic camera angle, now you are looking straight at it, try to avoid it at all times. It makes everything bland.

One more thing it could use some more passes, and work on your white balance :)
Good luck on your next project!

So I bought it, so far i'm loving the clean interface!
At first glance some of the materials could have been a bit more refined. But overall very happy with the purchase.

51
Hmm I should have a discount then lol, I had so many discounts I lost track!

Its settled then, i'l buy it today ha!

52
shrugs, that does sound just the way I want it, now its listed at 140 euros, maybe team corona can fix something lol. Right now the only thing keeping me from buying is it only accepts pay pal lol.

53
Yeah, its been on my radar for a while, although it's still a bit pricy. I might just take the bitter pill and buy it, the UI does look very clean and i'm losing way to much time figuring out my materials over and over. Wood has such delicate settings.
Thx!

No I mean I want to save my own materials and be able to load them in my standard material library.
Like I bought the viscorbel material tutorials and they had a material file I could append to 3dsmax.

Now I want to make one for myself with my own materials, not sure how to explain it otherwise :D

[Max] General Discussion / Starting my own material library
« on: 2015-03-31, 16:31:37 »
I as wondering, what is the best way to create my own material library?   I heard some people saying to make a scene for each material and import them, but sounds like such a hassle.
Or some kind of script that helps with that?

Much appreciated!

An interesting discussion you bring up; sorry to hijackyour thread but I always wondered, do you get more quality when you render a image at 4lk and downscale it to 2k?
I personally always render at 1920x1080, since most of my clients only require images for web.

Better, although now you picked to worst possible camera angle for any arch viz xD Straight on is a big no no. Always try to show 2 sides, straight on shots tend to be boring because you're missing your overall silhouette etc, also flat.

I don't think your rocks are to clean, but might I suggest to go for a more pink sky? you're image screams Africa, so either pink or really red orange'ish.

Also, you halogen lamp has a really nice shader! Good work really!

I kinda like it, but the overall scale of the road seems of, not sure how to put it. It just seems like to big in comparison with the house ( given perspective/distance etc )
