Hello! We are excited to announce that we have launched the new Corona Ideas Portal as a way for you to let us know what features you would like to see added to Corona!

This will make it easier for you to submit feature requests, add transparency on both what feature requests are out there and on their status, and make it far easier to vote on what you most want to see. Here are the important things you need to know:

  • No new sign up is required. It uses your Chaos login, which you already have and use for Corona.

  • Ideas will be visible to everyone. You can vote (once) on any Idea, and you can vote on as many Ideas as you like. This will be far easier than having to write “+1” as a forum reply (and for us, far easier to count!)

  • Every Idea will have a comments section, so that there can be conversation amongst the community or with the product team.

  • When you type the name of your Idea, it will make some guesses and suggest already existing Ideas to save on duplicates, which is far easier than trying to search the forum to see if the suggestion was already made. A quick look through already submitted ideas before posting yours is still worthwhile though!

  • There is a short help article on the site, under the Guide button (note that this is general for all the Ideas Portals, rather than specific to Corona). See the attached image for where to find this button in the Portal.

  • It is expected and deliberate that Ideas will NOT be immediately visible on the board when you submit them. New ideas are visible only to our team and the person who submitted them.
This gives us a chance to catch duplicates and merge them, before people start voting on the second or third posting of the same Idea :) It also gives us a chance to review them and give them an appropriate starting status. Ideas will be reviewed and moved from New at least once per week, and more often if possible.

  • Talking of the possible statuses, you can see those on the Guide page, but to cover them here they will be:
    • New: You just submitted it, and only you and the Corona team can see it.
    • Pending: We have to review it to see if and when it can be done, whether it makes sense, etc. It is possible for an Idea to remain in this status for a very long time, as we never want to forget any suggestion even if we’re not able to schedule it just yet.
    • Planned: The Idea will be developed as part of an upcoming release - may not be the very next release mind you! But we intend to work on this and get it into a final release.
    • Released: It’s out in an official release. This will be used not just for Ideas that get developed, but also if someone submits an Idea that has already been done in an earlier version (which we’ll mention in a comment when setting it to Released).
    • Declined: Very rare, only if something is either literally or practically impossible (e.g. an example of practically impossible is that it could be done, but would need all the devs working on nothing else for 3 years - technically possible, but not possible in a practical sense).
Corona for Blender, and Corona GPU would be requests that get Declined, for example (sorry).
Also, please do not submit bug reports on this system, those too will get declined - instead, please submit all bugs via ticket at https://support.chaos.com/requests/new .
If something is Declined, we will always give a reason.
    • Accepted: Not currently used on the Corona Ideas Portal (though you will see it on the Guide page).

  • On the left of the page you will find the three categories - Corona for 3ds Max, Corona for Cinema 4D, and Scatter. Note that Scatter will show submissions from all users of Chaos Scatter, not just Corona users.
You don’t need to worry if the Idea you are submitting for Corona for 3ds Max is already requested in Corona for Cinema 4D, or the other way around. Both products are listed separately, as the same Idea could have a different status for the two versions. If you do spot the idea is listed for the other application, it would be helpful if you could include the link to that idea in the description of yours.

  • You’ll find sub-categories under each of the two versions, such as whether your request is for Cameras, Lights, Geometry, etc. Naturally some requests might seem to belong under more than one category, and in those cases don’t worry about which one you submit it under! For example, you might view “final renders with different image dimensions for each different camera” as either Cameras, or as Rendering, and it doesn’t matter which you submit it under.
There’s a tooltip for each sub-category to give guidance of the kinds of things that would fall under it, and there is always the Other sub-category if you are really not sure where your idea belongs!

Please note that the feature request sections of the forum will be closed for starting new threads, starting on August 26th, with a pinned post directing everyone to the new Ideas Portal.

We’ll do our best over time to set up Ideas for feature requests already posted on the forum, but despite our best intentions this will likely be limited. My suggestion is that if a feature request made on the forum is of particular importance to you, don’t wait for us to move it over but feel free to set up an Idea to cover it. Of course if you don’t have time to “post again” we totally understand and will be trying to capture existing ideas, at very least the most major ones.

This is a bit of a transition time, while we all get used to the new and improved system, so please bear with us! Thank you!
