sky with clouds thread

Stefan-L:
Hi

first of all, thanks a lot for implementing the great new Chaos sky!
my first tests are very exiting already:)

a first question comes up, the clouds cast shadows option like in v-ray, will that come? i miss that yet in the options and results seem without yet.

cheers
Stefan

fabio81:
no, at the moment the clouds do not cover the sun. In this test the clouds are at an altitude of 500 meters so very low but the sun is always in front and is not covered.

Beanzvision:
Hi, we are aware of this and have it logged. ;)

Stefan-L:
ok great thanks!

another question, or feature request:

- will there be an option to define parts of the sky to NOT have clouds at that places, like a masking texture slot, where all black areas p.e will exclude clouds. we often design sky bgs that way, so there is a part with moody clouds, on the sides p.e. and other parts with sunny bright blue sky areas.

atm i need to do this part in 2 layers(one no cloud, other clouds) and then do it is post, i think having this direct in 3d(also with correct sky reflections then) would be really great and keep the artistic control

cheers
Stefan

I can't imagine there would be any way to implement that, even just from "how do you apply a mask to an environmental sphere and control it".  My thought would be to use LightMix, have both skies (cloudy and not cloudy), and then mask in post.

You could even have a mask object, with a render pass to capture it in reflections, to generate a mask that would let you control sky and reflections, a fair bit of work but should get there :)
